  • Super impressed with this 24 year old barolo. Both the nose and flavours were very intense. The nose had cherry and a metallic characteristic to it. Very intense. The wine was smooth with some tannins and could last a few more year’s easily. Flavour cherry, menthol, rusty metal made for a delicious and complex wine. Wish I had more.

  • Translucent ruby in the glass, with mentholated red fruits (cherry) on the nose.

Pretty feeling, with good structure and acidity - not bad at all for a normale.

  • Medium amount of sediment. Decanted 20 min and served, followed over the course of the day. Pale ruby, very slight bricking; nose is moderately aromatic, bright but also some denser black cherry, slight tar, slight musk; palate is light bodied, high tannins which are still very youthful and drying, high bracing acidity, red fruit; finish is medium length and tannic. My first time with this producer, and for the base barolo in an off year, this is pretty good. For those tolerant of tannins or with a nice piece of meat on hand, this seems like it's headed into early drinkability. It will likely last years still, but I'm not sure how much better it will get. It does seem to be a blend of an aromatic and a richer/tannic style typical from Castiglione. 90-91
1.5 hours decanting: Similar nose, slightly more aromatic than before; palate is similar but the tannins have really integrated at this point, much less drying, still high acid, still some primary red fruit; medium to medium-plus length and no longer that tannic. Solid 91, very enjoyable right now. I've decanted back into the bottle and will keep under cork until dinner.
Additional 5 hours after double-decanted into bottle: Nose is now slightly more red fruited than black cherry, otherwise not much has changed. Definitely noticed an improvement with the first 90 minutes decanting, but not much after that (and maybe too much integration at the expense of character). Still nice, now more about a great high-acid structure, refreshing with homemade tagliatelle al ragu.

  • Quite an interesting wine. Lots of dried black cherry, tar, a sweet aroma that I had a hard time pinpointing (not roses). Had some anise notes at the second glass. Solid acidity that paired well with food. Not sure this will ever improve.....

  • Nowhere near as open and accessible as my last bottle. This took a few hours to open up aromatically in the decanter, but always keeps a firm tannic spine and a sense that it's holding a lot in reserve. Still a really impressive wine, eventually showing layers of red and dark berried fruit, tar, tree bark, anise, and higher toned herbal notes, but this definitely needs time.

(Cavalotto Barolo Bricco Boschis) Awesome nose of violets, orange fruitcake, bacon fat and other floral notes. Incredibly concentrated in the mouth with so much up-front primary fruit. The pure strawberry had me thinking this very traditional - - which it is. Very supple and pure. A beautiful wine. Will go for the long haul.
