  • Super light wine. And a variety that I had not enjoyed before. This poured a dark ruby red into the glass. The nose was red fruit and oak spice. The entry is red fruit. Cherry Luden's cough drop, even a little bit of eucalyptus here as well. Finishes with good acidity, quite tannic (almost finishes like a super youthful charbono that's trying to rip the enamel off your teeth). I did enjoy this wine, although I can definitely say that I had to pace myself with everything else on the table that day.

  • Color: pale ruby.

Aromatics are powerful. It leads with what to my nose is a definite raspberry, with maybe some hints of black pepper or even tobacco.

Palate: We're novices, but this wine still felt pretty distinctive -- peppery, not fruity. The notes of raspberry on the opening were surely from the aromatics and moved quickly into the powerful acidity and powerful tannins. Bone dry. Medium-light body and balanced. A bit bitter on the finish.

We'd drink it again. It also made me want to try other Xinomavros as well as Agoritiko, and to explore other Alpha Estate wines.

Oh, and this went marvellously with the moussaka we made to accompany it. It really picked up and amplified the allspice and cinnamon.

  • It is pale ruby to my eye. Lots of red fruit (cranberry, cherry, transient strawberry), vanilla, oak, and indistinct baking spices. The palate bursts with bright red berries helped along by the tartness of the wine grippy tannins are a touch slow to show up but when they do they rear their head and sort of yell, “Surprise!” It has plenty of heft on the palate as well. The finish is fairly short and consists of dried cranberry and black pepper.

  • Decent wine. Fresh and vibrant with cranberry and bright cherry. It would probably have been better to wait for the summer for this one. Medium bodied with a medium finish. Not bad but nothing spectacular. May purchase again for a summer red with BBQ chicken, other light meat, or grilled fish.

  • Aroma of roasted nuts. Fruit taste is minimal. Acidity tastes more than enough.
