  • Well aged, drinking really well. Rough edges have mellowed, if there were any. At a beautiful spot. Maybe at peak. It’s just perfect now.
    *2nd night even better.
*10th night. Has gotten more dense and concentrated. A mineral, aged soy sauce element has developed.

  • Surprisingly tasty with a roast chicken. Zero green meanies, savory red fruit and good spine.

  • Drinks at Chateau YB.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, garnet colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of wet muddy soil, red bean soup, pine tree, dark Chinese herbs, dark red prunes. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), medium tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of dark Chinese herbs, dark red cherries, red prunes, savoury undergrowth, muddy soil, minty pine leaves. Long finish.
Very good quality. I enjoyed this 2004 more than I expected myself to. Lots of interest here. May not be everyone's cup of (herbal) tea though. Time to drink up, not for further ageing.

  • Green Lake Valley: Cinnamon, must, stewed blackberry, mixed spices, perfume, pot-pouri; medium body, nuance of sticks and stones, but still mirroring the aromatics in the nose; slight green and brown leaves, wet minerals; medium+ acidity, fine medium tannins, classic with good weight, good intensity, medium+ finish. One of 3 or 4 very good '04's I've had in the last year or two. Are the '04's coming around a bit after some age, or are these examples just exceptional? This apparently got much better since 2011.

  • Anita: Great initial nose of strawberry, then blkackberry-bramble and some asian spice underneath w/good doses of earth and some underlying vegetalness, but not obtrusive as in other 04’s. Smmoth, nice elegance, flavor, terroir. Great for 04! After 15 min. in glass, turned earthy and a bit non-descript.
