Quick 30 min decant, and opened up after 15 min in the glass. Nice nose with intense wild berry and flower. The wine is still very young but approachable, showing more complexity and intensity after another hour in the glass. Loads of fruit, scent and medium finishing. Good potential

Barrel Tasting at Sylvie Esmonin with Sylvie (Gevrey Chambertin - Clos St Jacques): Boldly spicy and meaty nose. Terrific richness and density with Grand Cru levels of concentration. The black cherry fruit is ripe, to be sure, but its held in check nicely by the acids. Layered and so flavorful. This is a decadent young wine that should age gracefully for 10-15+ years. 93-94

Burgundy, Day 1 (Beaune, France): Barrel sample. Drinking Clos St. Jacques in a cellar under Clos St. Jaques. Pretty damn cool. From >60-year-old vines. This was a potent wine with lots of raw intensity and power. There's clearly the most stuffing and layering going on here, and while again the ripe black fruit profile is here in full force, there's just so much more going on with this wine, especially in terms of the earthy minerality. The scale of this wine means it's probably going to be fairly long-lived.

Good potential. Nice nose, still tight and tannins apparent. Will give this more time. Hold
