  • Simple, juicy, fruity. First impressions can be deceiving. Indeed, while simplicity, juiciness, fruit and a balance leaning towards the sweet and missing intense acidity, draw immediate attention, more complexity develops when this vibrant coloured red is given the opportunity to breath. Aromatic floral notes take over, hinting at what primitivo does in Gioia del Colle near the opposite coast of southern Italy. This Calabrese cuvee of gaglioppo with cabernet sauvignon (60/40) seems to definitely have some common characteristics with quality primitivo wines from Puglia, however it's lacking some depth and intensity to really rival those. Earthy, dry herbs lead to a decent finish. Still, very good, I repeat, after a chance to breath. Salute!
This was always classified as a Val Di Neto. While, in an email, Librandi claims to have reclassified it from the 2017 on as a Calabria IGT, for this vintage there is confusion, but for later vintages it certainly will be the latter. That is until they decide to change it again... In the end what appellation is on the label is not too important or is it?
