Nose of burnt soil, burnt sugar, juicy and ripe red fruits + strawberry, herbs/spice and oak.
These note remain in the mouth. Out of the glass, quite bitter. Medium-full bodied (but a bit thin), the tannins in this wine are quite rough and the acidity is medium. As it opens, the nice mouthfeel is replaced by bitterness, harsh tannin albeit with a nice fruity finish that is stopped by noticeable alcoholic heat. Has a grape fruit juice effect in the mouth. Not very digestible and the fruit feels a bit over ripe.
Not sure about whether this combo of gaglioppo and cab sauv is a good one. I didn't really like the other gaglioppo wine from librandi I tried so it's safe to say I do not like this grape.
Rating is for grape quality. I think cultivar is to blame here.
