  • This was in great shape still with pure cab fruit and a rustic savory edge. Totally enjoyable.

  • 1½L btl. Beautifull clear garnet red colour with yellow rim, 5, Mature complex nose oozing of leather, mushroom, wet forest, violets etc, The taste was well balanced, dry with some tannins, leaving a long aftertaste with the same sensations as in the nose. Fully mature now but no hurry.

  • My wine of the night, and a hit with nearly all who tried it (wish I had more!).... Aromas of warm leather and mushrooms, truffles, freshly disturbed fallen leaves and autumn spices. A bit of gaminess, and barnyard, very old-world, like a classic Bordeaux, or well-aged Barolo. Soft on the palate, elegant, with warm, round and full flavors of a rainy afternoon spent wandering the forests in October - that undescribable combination of freshness and mustiness, spiciness and dried fruits, crisp air and wet earth. Long, echoing on the elegant finish. Impeccably balanced and utterly delicious.

Rockss and Fruit

(Librandi Gravello) 60% Gaglioppo and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon from Calabria. I would not buy this wine now as my palate has changed but the last bottle was pretty nice. Of course the Cabernet really came through on the palate but the nose was a nice blend of Gaglioppo/Cabernet and really accented Gaglioppo's intriguing aromatic qualities. It always reminds me much more of Nebbiolo than Aglianico, which is the southern Italian grape that is most commonly associated with the northerly Nebbiolo. There was a nice tarry rose petal thing but there also was definetly that curranty/cassis Cabernet thing going on too. Palate was pretty developed and had great concentration but you could also tell it was a bit glossed over and overextracted but still the wine had nice balance and cleansing acidity. Good wine and really shows why I DO not buy cases of wine anymore. It took me five years to finish the case and by the last bottle I had a very different palate.

(Librandi Gravello) This is very Burgundian. Nose of smoke, tin, ash, bananas, blueberries, toasty oak, plum pudding, jammy berry fruit. Almost zinfandel-like too. Nose is all over the map. So supple. This is very Burgundian on the palate with a supple mouthfeel and ripe, extracted fruit on the finish. It actually reminds me of a German wine on the back end. There is a gamey foie-gras thing on the finish that is similar to (to get really geeky for a second) Pfeffingen Spatburgunder Bereeauslese. Totally original wine.
