Medium ruby quickly moving to "brick" on the rim. Subtle red and black fruit. Earth, clay, jalapeno, pepper. Cedar. Some barnyard funk. Rose. On the palate, more fruit, ripe and tart. Earth, stone, clay, soil. Some alcoholic heat on the finish. Rich but not heavy. Acidity is still there. Extraordinarily balanced. Finish is medium-plus in length, complexity is medium-plus. Beautiful wine.

Damn.... Paid $12.08 for this puppy TONIGHT!!!!! Can you believe it.. Unfiltered cloudy red. Still has tremendous flavor and intensity with its soft silky but slightly drying tannins. This exceptional vintage merlot has ripe layers of cherry, plum, berry and a bit of spice. This wine spent 17 months in French oak and is showing complexity as well as elegance. You might think that it can't have much left......... - but it does.. Delicious.. Well done Robert Mondavi - Cheers and thanks for taking Napa Valley to a dizzying height.
