what a surprise! Still a magnificent wine at this stage, with a deep, undergrowth nose. The tannins are well blended. There's still some fruit (candied). At over 30 years of age, the mark of a great wine! (unfortunately this was my last bottle)

Dark garnet color turning rust orange at the rim with a reflective edge. The nose is very earthy with notes of leather, herbs, and tobacco. The palate is medium-to-full bodied with a silky texture and lively acidity. Flavors of black cherry, cigar box, beef blood, espresso, smoke and vanilla glide through a saline-tinged lining. Finishes long, smooth and persistent with hints of oregano and dried basil. Delicious and exotic. Balanced and elegant. What a treat! This has to be drunk now, but has a bit of a window left until 2019.

Masseto Vertical with wine maker team - all Masseto's ever produced (Switzerland): Tasted at Masseto complete vertical, organized by Arvi. Again from a not so easy vintage the technical director mentioned. Very complex and expressive nose of dark fruit, plum, caramel. On the palate dense and complex. Very fine Merlot indeed.

Good wine and ready to go. Has a green edge to it that hurt its overall score.
