Metallic upon opening. Sadly, the wine remained oxidised and almost tasted corked. I had two of these and this 2nd bottle was more flawed than the first which had retained some of the sweet, ripe - and aged - fruit.

Neil's Batailley Bash (The Square, London): Figgy, sweetly fruited nose. Mid garnet, a little cloudy. Quite high acidity, lacking a little on the fruit front. A touch dirty? A little rustic perhaps. Very nice though. Sweet, interesting, mature but really quite vigorous still. ***

T's 40th Birthday (Søllerød Kro): Old but still very much alive. Amazing to taste a good example of such a wine.

Chateau Batailley Dinner (The Square, London): Lightly oxidised, sweet, ripe fruit. Slightly bitter/dirty egde that's not quite right, this more noticeable on the palate. NR.

The Fine Wine Experience: Château Batailley with Philippe Casteja (Institute of Directors, London): There are stewed tea, prunes and VA on the nose, which gradually turns into corkinees and develops continuously, becoming worse and worse until it's feeling badly corked. Corky palate. But there is some sweet fruit in there, just detectable which augurs well for anyone that has a bottle.
