Assessing 2021 Burgundy-La Paulée de Los Angeles Grand Tasting (Fairmont Miramar, Santa Monica): Light red. Gorgeous, fragrant spice, cut flowers, and red berries. Lighter weight. Subtly sweet red cherry, smoke, some sap, long soil base, and moderately tannic. Lovely wine that is so different than the monumental, dense 2020 but also well worth buying. Revisit in 5 years and beyond.

Brief impressions. Expressive on the nose with too sweet and ripe cherries at the center and some spices and meaty notes around it. On the palate it has the same too ripe fruit, as well as some herbs and minerality. It’s quite fresh and round but with the acidity is not perfectly integrated, but the texture is nicely airy. But the flavor profile is quite unpleasant. 86pts

Tasted at the estate. Ripe sour cherry fruit, meaty and fleshy, smoke and leather, herbaceous notes. Fresh acidity, juicy palate with more fresh type of red berry fruit. Well-integrated tannin but all with quite some grip. Maybe a tad green.

25% new oak for 14-18 months. Very ripe concentration on the nose. Red flowers, oak, cherry, strawberry, spice, and pepper. Even tertiary mushrooms. Tannins are young, fine, and delicate. Good structure and acidity. This wine is very well-balanced and great concentration. Can drink now but best to hold 5-8 years.

La Paulée de Los Angeles Grand Tasting (The Fairmont - Santa Monica CA): Walkaround tasting. On the light side, this shows lots of bright and energetic red cherry. Good to enjoy young.
