  • This was banging and I hate to admit this, but way more elegant and far more focused than the 2000! This is a smashing vintage of GL and I cant believe that it went dissed (All though, I think Jane Anson gave it 98). I believe that this one is one to drink in full pleasure and better yet keep, because its so fascinatingly stern and stiff that I could see it as a 2016. A strong vain of acidity runs dead smack through the center of this and is going to take us for a long run over many years to come. Drink or HOLD! WOW!
I can only share this with you guys because I just scored a case of this in OWC so, I'm all good. Otherwise, I would have kept quiet and bought it up like a thief.

  • Beautiful ruby colour! Nose of bell pepper fruits, fresh on the palate, a touch acidic in my view! Simple and yet very easy to drink, with a medium finish!

  • Good but not great. Has that nice fruit forward, well balanced profile of 2001. Medium weight, good acidity and fine tannins. Lots of oak, slightly too much, not resolved. Blackcurrants and cassis, some saddle leather. Good length, some complexity. Drinking now, will be better in 5 years, still mainly primary.

Rockss and Fruit

(Gruaud-Larose) Ehhh...maybe one of the most boring wines on the left bank? Well maybe GPL and Lynch-Bages could nudge it out but your mileage may vary. I have liked GL in the past but it really underwhelms me these days. This was out of half bottle and had a nice floral nose with a ton of spicey oak and some mineral. Palette was rich and creamy with lots of unfocused red fruits and major barrel flavors. It later became shrill as the acid became the dominant force. It was correct wine but just so boring. I find certain left bank estates like GL, LB, GPL to be a bore. I don't know why. It's just there is no excitement in the wines. Everything is predictable and these wines and wines of the same ilk are just good, plain old fashioned Bored-deaux.

(Gruaud Larose) Nose of tarry oak, asian spice, earth and slight cassis. Nice nose. Great concentration of red fruits with a hint of vanilla from the oak. Good acids and around a 15 second finish. Very open. Excellent Gruaud for drinking now and for maybe 10-12 more years.
