  • From mag. 3rd bottle from a case of 6.

This bottle not as good as last one but still fine. Initially a bit thin and not giving much but gets better with time in the glass, eventually shoving ripe cassis and strawberries over old leather, lead and wood. Some very fine tannins remains. Medium acidity and lenght.

  • This Margaux wine has reached its peak, on its plateau, and it's delightful. It has a medium to light body and is full of charm and elegance. The bouquet of pencil shavings, barnyard, and brown leather leaves no doubt about its origin, inviting you to savor this elegant 45-year-old Bordeaux. It feels like a true privilege to be able to enjoy such a remarkable bottle. Very lovely!

  • From mag. Second bottle from the case. This was clearly superior to the first bottlle and very well preserved with still lots of cassis and hints of blueberries. Good structure and energy as well. Lovely wine and great fun to drink a bottle that has stood the test of time so well.

  • From mag. Quite intense nose with cassis, tobacco, forest floor and brambles. On the palate somewhat thin, at least on the mid palate, but still alive with black-, lingon- and rowanberries. Hints of black pepper, paint, tobacco, breadspice and beef stock. Not much tannin to speak of, medium+ acidity.

A good bottle, showing its age but still drinking quite well. Would have been better ten years ago though.

  • No mention of alcohol content in the label.

Traslucent and quite developed dark cherry color taking on a dull brown hue. Pungent, oxidative and sûr-agé nose with aromas of soy sauce, some nuttiness, a little bit of beef jerky and a touch of wizened berries. Nary a peep of fruit left here. The wine feels medium-bodied, savory and very mature on the palate with somewhat oxidative flavors of sour cherry bitterness, some beef jerky, a little bit of raisin, a hint of dried blackcurrants and a touch of leafy sous-bois. The acidity is moderately high whereas the tannins feel almost fully resolved with very little grip left in them. The finish is long, oxidative and somewhat coarse with quite tired flavors of wizened fruit, oxidative pungency, a little bit of meat stock and a hint of smoke.

The wine was way past its peak. Many commented (me included) how surprisingly enjoyable it was despite its condition, but seeing how completely dead and flat it was, there was no question whether the wine was in good condition or not. Hopefully any remaining bottles might show better, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
