On the nose classic aged Bordeaux the way I like it. On the palate a bit short and not really delivering expecations. I guess this would have been better 5 years ago.

Tried a bottle based on some of the positive reviews here. 30 min decant and drank with a Ratatouille at home. Color is still a healthy garnet. On the nose forest floor, menthol, herbs, some remaining dark fruit on the palate, fairly fine tannins, some bitterness towards the rather short finish. This is a nice little claret that works well with food now, and I can see this drinking still quite well in 10 years. It's certainly quite a success both in the context of the vintage which, perhaps except for those First Growth (?), is not creating a lot of drinking fun these days, but also in the context of the rather humble quality Malescot produced even in the bigger vintages of the 90s (have tried the underwhelming 1990 and 1996).

Here I am stranded in this weak vintage with a killer wine. What to do? Sing its praises. Maturing and glossy, fairly purple hue, which has stained the cork half way through. Fading at brim in lovely beige tones. Lovely, fluid elegant palate. Late strawberry, chocolate pudding, cinnamon, bay leaf, roasted meat, sea shells. Not creamy, but elegant svelte, with a nice acid flourish. A food wine, paired with assorted raviolis and sage-based beurre blanc.. Fully integrated, with some grip. LOVELY!

Mature aged Bordeaux. Tea leaves, drying finish. Graphite and dark cassis. Fruit starting to break up, sandy tannins.
