  • Nearing the end of its life for my taste, and fruit fading a bit, but this was still alive and in decent condition. Bright cherry, forest floor, good acidity and integrated tannins made for a good experience.

  • Clear, medium deep ruby core with a full garnet rum. Rather funky initial nose of mushroom, leather, dried cranberry, black cherry and tarred cedar. Later on no funk, just nice red berries, licorice and some leather. Medium bodied, very dry, still a bit tannic (surprisingly) and highish acidity. Initially funky on the palate as well: leather, dried red fruits, mushroom, pipe tobacco, sour cherry and black tea. Later on less funk and mostly sweet and tart and dried red berries with a bit of tarry cedar. Quite nice overall. Fully mature and perhaps on the downward slope but still quite palatable.

  • Nez invitant, bouche vive, fruitée et complexe. Finale qui s'étire. En plein sur son plateau, Excellent !!!

  • The 2001 has more muted red currant and cherry on the nose. No noticeable wood. Likely a tad past its prime IMO. On the palate it has some dried black currant or leaf, less cedar and a bit of a longer finish than the 2002. The finish is longer than the 2002, fruitier (tart red fruits) and juicier but still dry. I would say drink up soon. Served with slow roasted BBQ beef brisket, warm potato salad and fresh tomatoes.

  • I stumbled across this one looking for something else the other day and thought that they were all gone. (Probably a familiar story here...) This one has slept in my cellar since release and had a high fill and perfect cork, barely wet. The nose is classic Graves - smoke, charcoal, dusty red and black fruit with a touch of cedar bark. Quite inviting. Dark ruby red with a thinning rim. Medium bodied, very smooth, tame red fruit with a touch of black, integrated tannins, slight astringency and a bit thin on the medium finish. Very dry. Probably fully mature (for my taste) and won't improve further. Fades in the glass over an hour. Drink up. Overall, a classic and classy mid week dinner wine. Glad I found it now. Cheers!
