Dinner with Sasi (Yan, National Gallery, Singapore): This was really quite nice - a perfectly rounded, nature Burgundy. Nothing out-of-this-world, just really enjoyable old school stuff. The nose had a nicely mature character to it, with wafts of cream, earth and honeyed yellow fruit, with a little kiss of sweet stewed pears at the sides. The palate was round and fleshy, with ripe notes of fragrant Chinese pears and a bit of honey, all laced with a bit of chalky mineral and traced with a nice bit of lemon rind acidity. Tons of weight and girth on this, but the fresh acidity kept it in check. There was just a hint of oxidation starting to creep in, but this was otherwise very enjoyable.

I grabbed three bottles from my "Probably Oxidized" section at offsite storage, hoping 1 of 3 would be drinkable. The Colin-Deléger 1996 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru en Remilly was drinkable for 15-20 minutes before turning into cooking wine. Marc Colin 1998 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru la Garenne and Colin-Deléger 1999 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru les Demoiselles were both badly oxidized when opened. All three were revisited an hour later and even more advanced/ madeirized.

As badly oxidized as vinously possible.

Excellent, such a relief that a 1996 (or younger) white burg isnt an oxidized mess. Excellent acidity, not oaky, this bottle had plenty of life left

Almost completely oxidized. Sadly, I still have a few more to eventually taste before pouring down the drain.
