  • In the context of the vintage, the 98 Leflaive is extremely well made. Honeysuckle, apple, hazelnut and beewax. Palate is rich, ripe and powerful but there is enough acidity to support the wine. Best to consume sooner than later before the ripeness overtakes the wine.

  • Looks like we were are getting to the end of the case. What a great wine. 98 is not a heralded vintage but this has held up beautifully. Incredibly fresh and vibrant, still, 22 years in. This easily has another 10-15+ years. It is showing no signs of falling off. Nice fresh apple, spice, other orchard fruits. Great acidity. Nice viscosity.

  • The 1998 Leflaive Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles is maturing at a glacial speed and barely showing much tertiary flavours. Tasted blind and everyone thought it was 10 years younger. The riper tropical fruits reminds me of warmer vintages like 2009/ 2008. Full bodied with good fruit concentration and intensity, knocking on Grand Cru doors. Expansive flinty minerals which I thought could be Nuits Saint Georges Blanc (got confused with winemaking), great complexity. Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru? 2008? (92/100)

  • 2nd bottle from a 90 bottle lot! This one had a French tax label on the top of the capsule. A bit fresher than the bottle a few weeks ago. Liquid popcorn, golden apple and a lovely fresh uplift to it. Very close to grand cru quality and delicious drinking.

  • Wines from Domaine Leflaive before 2004 vintage are stunning and are rarely premoxed. This bottle of 1998 Pucelles is even fresher than the last one I had a couple months ago. Layers of golden orchard fruits, smoked nutmeg and spices, waxy layers of lemon. Mild sour citrus fruit and waxy honey on the finish. Complex and intriguing, it has got the Leflaive magic and Pucelles is knocking on Grand Cru doors. (92/100)
