  Needs an hour or two open to blossom -- intense nose of sweet tar and roses and berries. The flavors have the classic nebbiolo profile with a darkness and piquancy to it, with an undertone of mushrooms and underbrush, balanced by a definite lovely element of citrus and acidity. Tannins toward then end just sneak up and keep on rolling.

  I'm extending the time on this wine another year, because it's just lively and superb. Nose is intense with roses and a very light airy tarry quality, not at all a deep road tar. And there is a blackberry backend to the nose. The palate is full of dark juice that is piquant, with a mushroom and underbrush element beneath the bright fruit. Tannins kick in and just keep on rolling giving a long lingering silky finish. I don't see any sign of downhill, so I'm extending my date to drink to 2012. Note, throws off some sediment chunks so may need filtering at end of bottle.

  Another great bottle, see notes in early 2010 for details -- no significant diff. I'm changing end drink year to 2011 from 2010 -- there is no sense of flabbiness with this 97, very strong and lively.

  Tar and rosey notes on the nose. Blackberries, juicy earthy note, and dark fruit on the palate with good acidity and significant tannins at end. Greatl balance, and very lively.

  Soft tar on the nose and great floral, rosy notes. Rich nebbiolo fruit, berries, and earth/mushrooms on the palate. Perfectly balanced acidity, and medium tannins at end. All around one of the great "barolo" experiences. Not sure the rest of my case needs to be drunk this year -- still seems to have a lot of legs.
