Developed, but certainly appropriately for its age. There’s a hint of brulee sneaking into an aroma and flavour profile that has ripe peach and guava fruits. It is rich and spicy, layered and long. You get power and elegance here and some lovely florals and minerals on the back-end.

Short note (Christmas eve). Excellent, pure love tonight! Clean and mineral oozing riche nose with yellow fruits, ripe pears, touch of orange and warm gravel dust. Palate shows deep and complex fine ripe fruits with lovely acidity, minerality , great balance, depth and texture. Brilliant and clean, long finish. Class act Montrachet! (96 – 98+)

Ken's 60th Birthday (Smyth - Chicago, IL): 06/07/08 vertical. From magnum. My wine of the flight and just edging out the 07. Pale gold. A wow nose that is rich, round and layered. The palate is so richly concentrated with incredible intensity. Incredibly bright, long finish of sweet orchard fruit and mineral.

Ken's 60th Birthday (Smyth and The Loyalist - Chicago IL): From magnum in 06/07/08 vertical. Rich, ripe and very powerful with alluring aromas, tropical fruit and apple tart. Very long and broad. Stayed exactly the same all night. I slightly preferred the 2007 in the flight, but liked this 2008 more when re-tasted 5 hours after opened.

A lost Friday afternoon gathering – Champagne and Burgundy (Blacksalt, Washington DC): As the sommelier pours, the color is concerning. Clearly premoxed. The palate is still beautiful, rich yet weightless. What a shame!
