A friend stopped by my shop with this bottle in the afternoon. Since President's Day isn't just any Monday I asked him if he would like me to open it right away. I had already met my work goal for the day so wth. Mid shoulder fill, heavy mold under the capsule, wet/loose cork that I couldn't extract and pushed the last half inch inside in order to decant. Not the most encouraging signs. However, the packaging was not representative of the contents. The wine was excellent - with cigar box and tobacco, green pepper, herbs, tart cherries, blackcurrants, modest tannin, and a persistent finish. As nice as it was, I think it would have showed better 5-10 years ago.

Neil's Langoa Dinner, Hawksmoor. Deep garnet core, pale rim. Nose shows tobacco, gravelly mineral, touch of beef, some underlying berry fruit still. Medium bodied, with nicely polished tannins, spice, tobacco, very soft, almost sumptuous. Excellent

Neil’s Langoa Barton @ Hawksmoor (Hawksmoor, Guildhall): Full garnet. Bright and vibrant. Lovely green pepper nose. Classic 78. Nicely cool and fresh. Still some grip. Tobacco and cool gravel. Very food friendly. Classic 78. ****

From magnum. Really lovely, the favourite red at the table for the majority of the table. Classic developed Bordeaux flavours; cedar, leather, tobacco and graphite over a core of red and dark fruits that still seem quite fresh and lively, silken and really finessed in the mouth with a lightness of touch but real presence and depth. Fantastic.
