Why is it that the last bottle from a collective buy of a wine is always the best bottle? And what a wild ride of bottle variation this particular wine has delivered along the way! Hard and tannic, then reductive, then fruit forward and bold, then disjointed. And now? Now, this wine is all about the dark fruits of plum, blackberry and cassis with mineral elements of iodine. Secondary flavors of black pepper, smoked meats and roasted tomatoes. A finish of pepper and mocha; quite a nice wine ....or is it just this bottle. Proving once again that there are no poor vintages, just poor bottles. 12.5% alc. With ravioli pasta in roasted tomato sauce. Recommended.

This continues to be one odd wine. The color is now a mature maroon. When first opened, the bouquet is all barnyard/garrigue. As the wine opens, it find its bouquet: all plum, iodine, smoked meats, blackberry, olives, eucalyptus and a tad bit of raisin. The flavors on the palate is full and the flavors distinct. The mid-palate and finish are somewhat short. 12.5% alc. With blue cheeses and manchego and crusty bread. Recommended.

This now seems to have come into its own. The last couple of bottles have been decent, but certainly don’t knock my socks off. This showed loads of blackberry, coffee and smoke. 12.5% alc. With a Shack attack beef burger. Recommended.

A private lunch (Restaurant The Fat Duck ***, Bray-on-Thames, UK): Heady bouquet of flowers, minerals, red meat, pepper and red fruit; on the palate it is elegant, silky but precise with a typical 2006-hint of tightness, quite structured with lovely tannic grip; hint of cold tea on the finish, good length. Excellent potential, drink now - 2020+.

Two bottles, each showing the same: past prime. Soft, a little flat, browning fruit, pale cocoa tones.
