Slightly funky wet soil, dark cherry, toast, and raspberry on the nose. Very lightweight in the mouth, with a nice long delicate yet penetrating finish. Interesting bottle, and if representative, I suspect it won't be getting a ton better.

Still deeply coloured. Fragrant but powerful. Considering the hot year it has balance and freshness. After an hour or so it did tighten up a bit but still fine

Zachys La Paulée "Warm-up" Dinner (Lafayette - New York NY): In 03/06/07/08/09/10 vertical. A bruiser and powerhouse coming across as the most brooding and backward of the vertical. So much great material here, but I think it's the rare 2003 that will reward more patience. 91 points today, but 92-93+ point potential.

Tasted blind – Fresh dark fruits, bright wood and light spices. Deep pitched and showing hints of age on the palate. Stern herbal and meaty nose of Morey or Gevrey Chambertin. Rich and glossy dark cherries and cassis. Stylish, soft extraction with a nice new oak lift. Morey St Denis, Grand Cru, 2008? (91/100)

Pre La Paulée Zachy's BYO Dinner (Lafayette NYC): Aromas are a touch ripe and toasty, though the palate is much more fresh. Great concentration and a long, integrated finish. Delicious now.
