From magnum. Started as a 94/95, but eventually took on bretty notes and regressed to a 91/92. Deep dense and dark on the palate, this initially had a very engaging and lighter personality nose with spice notes. Air time took it towards the dark soil, meaty and earthy end of the spectrum.

Deep smoky cherry and barnyard flavors with a wonderful aged complexity on the finish. Very fine and lacy texture that aged Burgundy can develop. Yum but I think I might have preferred this about 5 years ago when it may have had more intensity. Still, what a treat to taste such an aged version of this great bottling. Game dinner at Daniel. 94

It was a mistake to not decant this Clos de la Roche. Still showing a very deep color, impressive for the age. The nose shows a lot of olives, mashed strawberries. Similar palate with a great balance acid-fruit. Still structure. Long finish. Not as powerful as I would have imagined. A treat to drink such a wine.

It seems 1978's red burgundies never miss it. In great shape, the meaty style albeit pure, expecially impressive extract and richness. Surprisingly young to many, and I agree. Plenty of acid in there, colors suggest a younger wine. Really fine Remarkable how well red burgundies age if really well stored. This just might deserve another point or two in five or six years.
