  • Good to revisit my last bottle of 96 CDLR after 7 years. The wine was classic but also ethereal with darkish red fruit, spice, flowers, and perfume. It had wonderful fruit purity with a weightless mid palate attack. Drinking in a sweet spot now. 95-96

  • A very pleasant surprise - the opening nose and attack was clean, pure and showing nicely complex rich and ripe fruit. First 30 minutes or so were delicious but with some more time the high level of acidity found in the 1996 vintage took its toll here, and it became more and more dumb.

  • CdlR Dinner … H Lignier 1996, 1998, 2000 Dujac 2000, 2006, 2008 Ponsot 1998 … 1 of 6 Decanted @ 4:00 served @ 8:00. Deep ruby color, blue fruited, powerful nose. Old school styled GC. Layers of polished fruit, fine tannins, rich texture, long finish. This is still pretty tight and should improve over the next decade and last another two decades after that.

  • Dibbs' early birthday: Pristine cork. Thought this showed quite similar to the Groffier Amoureuses a few weeks back, but guess the similarity was down to more old-school winemaking (that I actually really like). Got it right on the second try as the blue fruit put me in MSD. Wonderful perfume that was seductive but also had some brooding darker notes of coffee and earth. Palate was quite tight still at first but the red and blue fruit emerged with air. The structure and fruit came together quite seamlessly, the fruit was both vibrant and had the concentration of a proper grand cru. An absolute treat.

  • I really love CLDR. For the price, one of the best vineyards out there. In my opinion, it is best Morey GC with the right producer and up there with the very best of wines produced in Burgundy. Burgs are truly magical if you can catch them at the right time and this was one of those times.

This still needed some time in the decanter and even after it was tasting tight. But thankfully it opened up in the glass, showing its breed and class. Very different sort of perfume on the nose vs the 97 Gaja Sperss or even the Ca d'Morissio. It had more preciseness and singularity than the other wines. Amazing balance and length with cool blue and red fruits intermingling. This was mesmerizing for me and was the WOTN against some stiff competition. Wish I had more, truly drinking at or close to peak but nowhere near falling off.

(Lignier Clos de la Roche) Huge open almost CA nose of bright berry fruit with a hint of briaryness. Then some spice and other notes of complexity. The wine kept changing and changing almost every five minutes. Palate was pure silk with prodigious fruit and wonderful extract. Not over the top at all. Amazing seamlessness on the palate with just so much going on. Long finish that really never leaves you. This just felt so right in your mouth. Amazing wine.
