  • 230424: Celebrating DQ's Bday at Uovo Asador with immacutely curated menu & wines by bday boy himself. Tasted blind with our last main of A5 Miyazaki beef & the pièce de résistance 2X bots from DavidQ.

Complex enticing aromas of dark fruits, plenty blueberries, intertwined with notes of tobacco, violets, cedar & hint of dried fruits.

Palate: Elegant & refined with ripe black fruits; black plums & cassis, layered with nuances of earthiness, leather, and a touch of graphite. The finish is ethereal evolving into savory notes of spices

  • 1 hr air out of magnum. This is a good bottle of mature Pomerol but not one that really shows off the greatness of Lafleur. Some funkiness, some vegetal notes, a lot of sour cherry and some umami. Tannins are strong but almost mellow. There’s a lot of earthiness and high acidity. Tasted more advanced than it probably technically is: I bet this will keep for quite a while longer although I am not at all sure it can get better. Very respectable, not much more.

  • This was "pop and pour" at the last minute, but still was drinking beautifully. A lot of rich earth, slight funk, mushroom, black fruit.

  • Meeting Delphine's Family (Scott and Amy's House): PnP - I probably did this wine a dis-service by not decanting, but was a last second addition at a party. I will say this bottle drank much better than the last time I had this wine! It was definitely open for business, and even though it only got about 30 mins of air in the glass, it was showing remarkable balance between fruit and tertiary goodness! This wine was actually leaning slightly toward the tertiary side of the spectrum, but still showed plenty of red and black fruit, surrounded by earth, gravel, graphite and forest floor with hints of cocoa. Surprisingly balanced with acidity and tannins, especially for a Right Bank 2004 wine.

Not sure if it was my low expectations or just a much better bottle, but this was surprisingly good! A solid 96 for my discerning palate! Absolutely loved it!

  • Nose of plums, chocolate, green vegetable, hyacinth and stable. The palate is dark fruits and a beautifully structured profile that highlights an integrated savory fruit. Such balance and integration!
