  • Easily the best aged Bandol red wine I have ever had...
Mid-top shoulder level, some signs of seepage.
The cork came out in one piece, soaked, but the first smell gave reassurance.
Decanted for about an hour prior to dinner and the wine did benefit from this. The ripeness of the 78 vintage shows up both in the tannin structure and the aromatic intensity and ripeness. Even 4 decades later, this Mourvedre based wine has plenty of structure to hold everything together.
Very ripe fruit, spices, earthy notes, iron notes. After three hours, the fruit starts to dry up and the tertiary notes take over. Great balance with good acidity, plenty of ripe tannins and excellent fruit concentration.
I wish there was more of this wine around...
