Deb has had this in her cellar since visiting the estate. We opened it with pizza, not expecting a 17 year old Merlot based wine (I guess) from a lousy vintage to be any good. Surprisingly, despite my trepidation, the wine was actually pretty decent. It showed softened black fruits and a herbal/vegetable compost element, soft tannins, moderate acidity and a resolved, softened texture. Deb noted a lack of power, which is true, and I noted the short fininsh, but then again, we're talking St. Emilion from 1992. Gets extra credit for being enjoyable, 17 years after the lousy vintage.

Still an excellent wine. I had expected it to be past it's prime but it was surprisingly good. I wouldn't keep it any longer though

Outshined by the 1990 Sociando-Mallet at a wine lunch, but nevertheless pretty good. Would have been something to have had the 90 of this one.
