Community Tasting Notes (average 91.8 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 150 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by bin905 on 3/15/2024 & rated 90 points: Sweet flower scent. Pepper, licorice and rich dark fruit flavor with zippy tannins. (149 views)
Tasted by Gregmonroe on 12/10/2023: So I bought a cellar; 11/12/2022-12/31/2030: Drank over two nights. Had a weekend long kid soccer tournament, and wanted a nice glass. This delivered. Bottle looked in great shape. Pulled the cork with ah so, and maybe half an inch soaked. Tartartic crystals on the bottom. First pour - deep dark in the glass, with very little on the nose. First taste had decent fruit, and spices. As it opened, there was some cranberry, red currant, and baking spices. When in the glass for several hours, there is more prune, but without too much air, this is drinking nicely. Corked with a vacuum seal, and on night two, this is in a great spot. Cherry and cranberry on the palate, with more of a cooked fruit nose. Good tertiary aromas. It hit the spot. (418 views)
Tasted by bin905 on 9/30/2023 & rated 92 points: Spice, blackBerry, red currant, tobacco flavor with zippy tannins. (309 views)
Tasted by EdKz@comcast.net on 12/6/2021 & rated 92 points: Deep Garne, medium/full body, aromas of black fruit/plum, flavors of blackberry, anise, smooth tannins, light acid, medium finish (1551 views)
Tasted by morgenmonster on 12/6/2021 & rated 90 points: Held flavor well. I drank it against a variety of cheese, both young and old, and it was very nice. Then against a ham and bean soup, it really complimented the earthiness of hte dish. I agree that the wine is likely near or just past it's peak. (1395 views)
Tasted by Winokdub on 7/27/2021 & rated 93 points: Great wine (1630 views)
Tasted by Winokdub on 6/5/2021 & rated 93 points: Really enjoyed this especially with the tomahawk steak. Fantastic. It seem as the wine is in an ideal mature drinking window with a short peak life ahead and certainly no benefit to wait. Great nose. Cedar tobacco cassis. Slight bricking on the edge. Velvety mouthfeel. Mellow but still present tannin. Soft acid with a clean and balanced finish. (1572 views)
Tasted by SchlaepDog on 11/5/2020 & rated 91 points: Nice plush red blend that is fully mature and ready to go.

Raspberry, red cherry, and red plum are balanced by cocoa and light tobacco. The finish is still fresh with red cherry and faint earth notes. Overall, nice wine that is peaking, although it did fade it bit after being open for a few hours. Drink now. (1946 views)
Tasted by rmcnees on 2/11/2020 & rated 92 points: Consistent with earlier tasting notes - This was dark inky purple colored, full bodied, concentrated rich black berry and black raspberry fruits accented by complex layers of cassis, tobacco, dark chocolate mocha, hints of caramel and soft sweet oak on the smooth silky tannins on the long lingering finish.

Tasted by piedmoose on 4/22/2019 & rated 90 points: Very dark wine with plenty of sediment in the bottle. Notes of chocolate and dark red fruit. Hint of tobacco as well. Dark red fruit on body with short finish. No tannins noticeable. Seems a little fruit heavy on the balance. (2331 views)
Tasted by mkemw on 3/28/2019 & rated 91 points: dark fruit, cassis, vanilla very pretty easy consuming wine (2203 views)
Tasted by Birkmeier on 3/16/2019 & rated 92 points: Still holding up very well. This wine is fantastic. (2098 views)
Tasted by Mapleglo330 on 2/9/2019 & rated 93 points: Fantastic. Deep purple color. blueberry, raspberry, chocolate. Tannins are smooth and blended in well. Aged well and ready to drink tonight. with one hour decant. (1960 views)
Tasted by cadams on 4/16/2018 & rated 92 points: Chalk, blackberries, high acid, med tannin.
Probably has a solid 3-5 years. (2432 views)
Tasted by KendraPM on 3/30/2018 & rated 92 points: Did not taste like an 8 year old wine. This has cellared very well and held up with a nice body and deep fruit. (1882 views)
Tasted by Winowhyno on 3/3/2018 & rated 92 points: Always a pleasure.... (1938 views)
Tasted by tomoem on 10/8/2017 & rated 92 points: It is a very good Napa wine. It has spicy notes amidst a fruit forward expression. Starts with cooked cherries and continues with a chocolate wrapper around that fruit and ends with vanilla. All good things but something is missing from this wine which keeps it from being great. Can't really nail that missing link .... but blame it on being a merlot ! (2578 views)
Tasted by Jesus H. Christ on 6/10/2017 & rated 92 points: Bought on sale at $42 per bottle and at that price, this is the best bottle of muscular Napa red you can buy. Great tannins help hold together complex flavors of dark fruit, vanilla and spice. Should continue to drink beautifully for another 7+ years. Wife and I prefer drinking this while cooking dinner and prefer a more mineral red with food. If drinking now, decant for 2 hrs before making notes. Glad I have 2 cases! (3149 views)
Tasted by Baron Slick on 4/29/2017 & rated 93 points: Youthful at first but an hour decant brings it to life. Black currant, cassis, and fancy oak aromas have hints of mocha and conifer. The palate displays plush but restrained black fruit, beautiful texture, and the perfect tension between fruit and savory elements. Lovely depth, length, and complexity, with impressive balance, and a broad, blackberry fruit finish. Outstanding. (2582 views)
Tasted by scotty_b on 4/21/2017 & rated 92 points: Interesting the number of reviews on CT without tasting notes, but I understand why. This wine is silky smooth and balanced well, maybe a little on the oaky side for me. But it's also pretty non-descript in terms of flavor complexity and you really have to dial in to figure out what's going on here. I get sweet blackberry, cocoa, vanilla, some forest floor, but nothing dominate or jumps out of the glass. No heat at all, and even better on day 2 suggesting more years of life ahead. 91 pt on day 1, upgraded to 92 on day 2. It's delicious, but not for deep thought or analysis. Drink up! (2446 views)
Tasted by Nekodab on 4/1/2017 & rated 95 points: Let decant, 96+ (2466 views)
Tasted by libero on 2/1/2017 & rated 92 points: Dark, full body, round with tannin at the fishing (2123 views)
Tasted by RayT on 10/16/2016 & rated 91 points: First time really enjoying this wine. This wine has started to come together. Still needed 2 hour decant to peak. Bold wine that is now gaining balance. (2427 views)
Tasted by Kopperl on 9/22/2016 & rated 92 points: Opened up nicely the second day
(2072 views)
Tasted by Jab_343434 on 9/11/2016 & rated 91 points: Drinking perfectly now. A well integrated wine, dark fruits of plum and fig on the palate, smooth finish. (2235 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
