Tasted by Ghoulardi on 7/10/2023 & rated 94 points: This is my first time trying Montevertine, and it completely shattered my expectations. This feels like it's close, but perhaps past its peak. Only 12.5%, excellent integration across the board, just the right amount of secondary and tertiary notes and a persistent red fruit core. WOTN! (346 views)
Tasted by Thefatbastard on 10/20/2018: Simplement grandiose pour son stade d'évolution! Déploie une gamme de notes tertiaires d'une grande complexité. Cuir, tabac, the, épices douces. Une bouche fondue, ample, une longueur interminable d'une grande complexité. Très briqué. Finesse et souplesse... Un vin méditatif. (1134 views)
Tasted by RajivAyyangar on 2/18/2017 & rated 91 points: Charcuterie lunch with Tim (Home (Noe st)): Medium minus garnet with tawny rim.
Expressive, slight tamari-fig, sweet leathery red cherry. Dried roses and animal fur and leather and sweet tobacco on the nose. Sweet, savoriness from development.
Dry, medium body, feels 13.5%, high acid, medium plus tannins - still grippy but fine-textured. Beautiful integration. (1741 views)
Tasted by Slammin Sammie on 1/22/2017 & rated 90 points: Probably moving to a bit past it's prime, but still a gentle, lovely wine that opened up in the decanter (1305 views)
Tasted by Andyofoto on 1/6/2016: Celebration bottle.

Yellow toned bricking on the edge that leads to a core of cloudy cayenne pepper red. Beautiful. Aromatics are subtle and cohesive. Rustic dusty smells of leather, tea, earth, brambled blue fruits, and very shy note of amaro like herbs.

Sweet fruited, mid weight, still has slight grip. Acidity is lower in this vintage but sweet lemons hold the delicate mid palate. The wine is very cohesive at this point and I would say this is right in the money zone.

Because of the lower acidity I would drink this soon if you have them. Tertiary notes are still in the background and I would be afraid they would start to overwhelm if they were too present in the wine.

I love Montevertine (1755 views)
Tasted by dox84 on 4/24/2015 & rated 90 points: Nose of cherries, chocolate and mineral notes.
Smooth mouth with medium/long finish.
Good!! (1748 views)
Tasted by kfinsrud on 1/31/2015 & rated 89 points: Served blind. Color suggets medium-body with some maturity. Nice nose with light red berries, leather, spice and some earthy flavours. Tart acidity and soft tannins. A bit short finish. Some lack of fruit on the middle palate. Elegant with a soft body. Excellent with musroom risotto. (1234 views)
Tasted by galenico on 1/19/2014 & rated 91 points: MONTEVERTINE VERTICAL (FLORENCE - WINE IN PROGRESS 17/11/2013): The best of the three samples, without any doubt.
Ripe and evoleved fruit, so big and elegant, with a hint of truffles coming out. Captivating!
The palate keeps its promises and reveals a feminine body fresh, easy to drink sangiovese with a lot of years ahead

(2380 views)
Tasted by marc d on 12/22/2008 flawed bottle: Corked. A shame because the first glass showed the promise of a nice mature bottle with resolved structure, then the wet cardboard took over. (2390 views)
Tasted by marc d on 4/23/2008: With rotini pasta and Trader Joe's tomato vodka sauce. Excellent nose with potpourri of spice, earth, sour cherry, a little horse saddle too. Nice pure fruit and lovely acidity in the mouth, tannins present but soft. Quite good for current drinking, should hold for a while. This was better than a bottle tasted in 2/08. (2132 views)
Tasted by marc d on 2/7/2008: Medium ruby red color. Beautiful aromas of sour cherry, leather, and some earthy funk. Medium body with good grippy tannins and tart acids.Opened nicely over several hours. Tannin is a little bitter, not astringent though. Honest, earthy Sangiovese. I think this will loosen up and improve with another few years of age. Very good with linguine and marinara. 12.5% abv. $20. (2020 views)
Tasted by AtlantaBill on 6/22/2006 & rated 88 points: Aroma of black pepper, leather and dust with hints of black cherries and plum. Taste of black pepper, plums and cherries. Velvety tannins with a long finish. (1827 views)
Tasted by espia on 12/5/2005: Great wine (1481 views)

Sangiovese Blend

Sangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.
