Disgorged July 2019. Floral with roses and violets, toasty pencil shavings and lemon rind. Rich and complex on the palate with great balance and texture. Delicious.
Lemon rind, lime, smokey notes and ginger. Lean and clean with tangy acid and good flow. Nice length and texture. Still very young, I'd like to revisit in around 5-6 years.
Golden colour. Punchy aromatics - lifted rosewater, honey, spice and swirling white and yellow floral notes. Textured with plenty of fruit presence on the palate, there is a lick of sweetness there (20 g?) but also has the touch of Gewurtz bitterness on the palate that I really like. Amazing as usual from this producer.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Lemon cream, spicy oak, smoke and pear. Lean in style, good purity and zing but very young- feels likely that it has barely budged since release. Waiting for this to unfurl.
Tasted blind. Tomato, stalk, earthy and green herbal notes flowing through. Tangy acid, medium bodied, I think the herbal notes make it taste a bit older than it is, with more complexity than the young wine it is. Almost seems like it's a drink now or soon proposition.
Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra
Smoky oak, cranberry, leather, blueberry and red berries. Powerful fruit, but certainly doesn't lack for structure. Classic Penfolds red, with plenty of fruit and oak even with 30 years age on it.
Amplified fruit profile here - redcurrant, blackberry, licorice and leathery earthy notes. Palate clamps down even with the density of the fruit. Another 20 years to go here?
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Blind. Chocolate, cherry liqueur and some rubber. High octane palate, bold and dense - the fruit intensity covers over any chance of character or texture. Not a fan and not what I typically think of from this producer?
Violets, cherry, spice and blackberry. The fruit quality is undeniable, with great tension between sweetness, acid and tannin. Plenty of things happening, but it really needs more time - another 10 years might be right?
Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley, Pokolbin
Wow - leaps out of the glass - licorice and violets, musk and blueberry/blackberry. Spices swirl on the palate, lovely length to go with the high toned flavour profile. Pure and delicious.
Light golden colour. Apricot, lemon and orange peel. Fresh palate, light with good sweetness and push through. Not overly complex, but a really nice way to end an evening.

Funky, bruised apple nose. Fresh flavours though, a nice contrast. Very dry and has presence on the palate.

Smoke, hay and toasty caramel. Oxidative palate, with a twang of tang going through. Complexity here, but it's on the tipping point.
