Garnet colored in the glass with a little bit of sediment. Interesting nose of florals, tar, olives and mint. Red fruit and baking spice on the palate. High tannin and acid. I left some in the glass and came back to it and it seemed to start opening up more. I prefer my nebbiolo at the point where it shows both primary and secondary characteristics, so I think this is probably drinking as well as it ever will right now.
Candied nose of cherry and strawberry (but in a good way, not over the top). Similar notes on the palate. Sweet fruit without being overripe. Balanced. Medium tannin and acid. Medium to long finish.
Medium intense nose of black currant and menthol with noticeable cedar/oak notes. Dark fruit on the palate with some black pepper spiciness. Full-bodied with medium acid and medium high tannins.
Dark fruit on the nose with just enough earthiness to give it some character. Cherry fruit on the palate along with some earthy notes and bell pepper/pyrazine. Medium oak influence.
Very aromatic. Nose of toasted oak, black currant, bell pepper and spearmint. Similar notes on the palate. Medium to full bodied. Smooth mouthfeel. Medium tannin and acid. Medium long finish. Very well balanced overall.
France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Terrasses du Larzac
Strawberry on the nose with noticeable buttery oak. Big, ripe strawberry and cherry fruit on the palate. Medium high tannin, medium acid, medium finish. "Modern" styled.
Very aromatic nose with pure, ripe black currant and black cherry fruit. Similar notes on the palate with well-integrated oak and just a hint of bell pepper/pyrazine. Medium to full bodied on the palate. Long finish. Powerful but restrained. Excellent.
Beautiful nose: stony, floral, apple, and a bit of honey. Medium to full-bodied with some weight on the palate. Medium to long finish with mouthwatering acidity. Very good.
Copper-colored in the glass. Coconut, florals, and dried apricot on the nose. Smells like Heredia. Citrus fruit on the palate with tons of minerality. Medium-high to high acid. Finish seemed kind of short. As a side note, I've had three vintages of this wine so far and I've enjoy 1995 the most.
Nose of ripe apple, honey, and a touch of petrol. Ripe fruit on the palate with candied orange peel and honey. Medium long finish. Medium acid. A little bit unbalanced. The acid was surprisingly lower than I would have expected.
USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Maria Valley
Fascinating nose of caramel, popcorn and butterscotch, but the palate doesn't seem to line up, showing herbal notes with layers of minerality. Medium high acid and medium length finish.
Red fruit on the nose and palate. Medium high tannin and acid. Short finish. 2005 is really young for a barolo, but still this one doesn't seem to have a whole lot going for it.
Oaky nose with candied cherry, pomegranate, and some hints of bell pepper. Similar notes on the palate. Medium high tannin. Medium acid. Slightly bitterness on the finish.
Gorgeous nose of butterscotch, pear, walnut and vanilla. Viscous on the palate with medium high acidity. Very sweet but without being overbearing at all. Long finish. I could very easily drink a lot of this.
