A burgundy lunch with a bit of a Rousseau theme. Apart from the faulty wines, the reds were all lovely, but for me the Rousseaus have a luminosity and depth that leaves me quite emotional - the 93s are pretty much perfect.
2002 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Looked alarmingly deep gold in the decanter, but pale in the glass, powdery spicy and mineral, very Leflaive, precise, very very fine

1988 Joseph Drouhin Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Blanc
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
Rounder than the Leflaive, smooth slightly earthy Chardonnay fruit, not showing its age at all, very pleasant
