Fresh cabernet-sauvignon (75%) nose, elegant and fine, slightly vegetal, a little light and simple, bay. Nice though.

Very beguiling on the nose, very elegant classic Saint-Julien, cedar and soft fruit, fully developed, light but transparant on the palate, slightly drying and short on the finish. Drink now.

Power and weight as you'd expect, a complete wine, velvety tannins. Nice now - 2015

A relatively masculine style of Poyferré, not as exotic as the 1990, not as classical as the 1996, but still with a certain charm, a very complete wine and very 1995. Very high quality. Now - 2025.

Fragrant, lovely pepperiness (33% CF), not a touch of hard tannin or vegetal notes, on the contrary charming and long. Now - 2015

Some elegance, typical 1996, light, drink up, not a shadow of more recent vintages.

Quite big for a Margaux, the hand of Rolland noticeable, good concentration of fruit, nice touch of oak, plausible, lacks a certain aromatic persistence. Nice - in its way. Now - 2015.

Savoury, animalité, pencil, some concentration, no obvious 1989-charm, masculin, svelte tannins, fully developed. a touch simple for what it is.

A bottle a few years ago was magical - the sort that makes you understand why Friedrich Engels' answer to the question "What is the purpose in life?" was: "The bouquet of Château Margaux 1848". This bottle came nowhere near. A decent wine - if I may be so bold.

Classic Pauillac, depth, structure, quite closed actually - will the fruit outlive the structure in this incredibly backward wine? If so 2016 - 2036 (or thereabouts).

Pleasant, sweet fruit, slightly lactic, not profound but a joy on its own slightly chilled and with a wonderful starter of dover sole, smoked eel, cucumber and beurre blanc.

Impériale. The first half of the big bottle was decanted into two magnum decanters. This made for a slightly tired wine, albeit alive. The second half was poured directly from the impériale and was much fresher, with lively fruit. A nice surprise. The rating applies to the second half.

Light and elegsnt, lightly toasted but pleasant, fragrant, fully mature, finely-grained tannins, slightly short, cedar, decent fruit, a nice surprise.

Weak, shallow, sad story, dies quickly in the glass.
