Very mature aromas of ripe orchard fruit. Similar apple and pear flavors, also mature, seemingly past its peak drinking window if this bottle is representative. Still good textures and nicely spicy on finish.
Mature stone fruit and tropical fruit aromas and flavors. Good spice. Obvious heat in middle and finish. Much better than an overly mature bottle from a few years ago, but this was also at the tail end of any conceivable peak drinking window.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
Floral start with apple, lemon peel and oak spice aromas. Great mineral-driven beginning on palate with lean apple to start, transitioning to lemon and lemon peel flavors. Long, powerful, spicy finish. Kept getting better with more time in glass and decanter, this will most likely be better 5 years form now than today.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
Big, rich and fat stone fruit aromas and flavors, with some ripe apple as well on palate. Slightly mature, but at a great place today. Long and powerful finish with great spice. Most others preferred this to the more lean and linear Jadot 2002 Montrachet served alongside, but I preferred the more classic Montrachet.
Just released, so this was first tasting since a barrel sample at the Domaine in September 2010. Fat and lush stone fruit aromas with some allspice, clove and ginger. Great textures with an unctuous mouth feel and a rich, oily, powerful finish. Beautiful today with great balance start-to-finish.
From magnum. Dark color. All earthy aromas with a slightly dirty character. Not much fruit left, very earthy flavors with a slightly muddy element, and a fair amount of tannin remaining.
Still had a fair amount of black fruit, but it didn't come across as quite ripe enough, giving a slightly green and bitter hint, particularly on the finish.
Mushroom and forest floor aromas. Clearly there had been plenty of ripe fruit, still showing some plum and liqueur hints. Good remaining structure. Finishes with an exotic, sweet, soy-like character that i really enjoy in older wines that still show balance.
Earth and good spice on nose with faint fruit hints. Still overall good structure, balance and textures make this a very charming and elegant wine, one notch better than the 1978 Latour tasted earlier.
Ripe plum, liqueur, cedar and cigar box aromas. Great ripe black fruit, hints of emerging sweet earthiness. Long, powerful and lush finish shows good spice.
Black fruit, dark chocolate, dark roast coffee on nose with some cedar hints. Lush and dense on palate, modest spice, modest structure. Very good today, i'd like it is at its peak drinking now.
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Lush fruit aromas with some Asian spice character. Fat and somewhat sweet on palate, showing charming red and black fruit, very balanced and accessible today.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Ripe black fruit aromas with plenty of earthy background, modest spice, a fair bit of brett, giving it a little more barnyard character than I prefer. Perhaps a bit also past its peak.
I haven't always enjoyed this wine, but am excited on its trajectory based on today's performance. Blackberry and plum aromas with lots of toast, oak and liqueur. Same dense, ripe black fruit along with good smoky, gamy meat flavors. Good black pepper and licorice as well. Great length and more balance than i ever recall from previous times I've tried this wine. Still a bit too sweet today, also with some baby fat that still needs to integrate, but I like where this is going.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Great potential here. Lush lack and red cherry aromas. Big spice, more on palate than nose. Fat and forward today but with so much dry extract and concentration that I expect this will transform into another classic Jadot CSJ much like the 1996 or 1997 in another 10-20 years.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
Good cross-section of cherry aromas with big spice component that includes a fair amount of new oak that needs to be absorbed. Similar fruit on palate, slightly behind tannins a bit too firm and rugged for now. Not as lush as many 2009s at this level, but this has interesting long-term potential as it integrates.
sensational for such a young Barolo. Fresh rose aromas with black, ripe rugged fruit, some liqueur hints. sweet fruit with great density and minerality. Power and concentration. Sensational already, this should be an exciting wine to follow over the next 20 years.
