Introduction

An amazing night, Killer food and rocking wines!

Flight 1 - Flight 1 (2 Notes)

These could have passed easily as white burgs.

Flight 2 - Flight 2 (3 Notes)

Sparklers

Flight 3 - Flight 3 (3 Notes)

Bordeaux warm up

  • 1983 Château Palmer 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Lots of cedar/cigarbox, annis, licorace, spices and leather. The palate was thick with dark fruits. The finish was long and still somewhat tannic.

  • 1983 Château Lafite Rothschild 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

I saved this wine for over an hour to seen how it opened up. It was very floral when opened, showing violet and some soft red fruits. After sitting in the glass for a while it opened up wonderfully. There was still a floral element but it took on more of a masculine tone. The fruits became darker, with more graphite and minerals showing up. Lovely wine.

  • 1983 Château Cheval Blanc 95 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Very powerful, lots of cedar, tobacco and spices with a big finish. Initially this was much better than the 83 Lafite but after giving the Lafite some air they were neck and neck

Flight 4 - Flight 4 (3 Notes)

1918 and LB you can't ask for much better...

  • 1918 Seguin-Manuel Musigny 97 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru

I was very nervous about this wine (it was my donation to the cause) because I had purchased it from a retailer and had no idea of it providence. I brought 2 backups thinking that the odds were it could be bad. On the contrary, it was wonderful. The fill on the bottle was amazing, within a cm or so of the cork. After the recommended 10 to 15 minutes from Roy it really opened up. Showing strawberry, balsamic and lots of floral characteristics. The finish was silky smooth. I kept thinking… Wow that’s cool!

  • 1989 Château Lynch-Bages 97 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Very dark wine, Pencil lead, tobacco, huge dark fruit, with a thick, think palate. Very tannic finish that is really long. To steal a phrase of my nephews "I gotta get me some of these"

  • 1990 Château Lynch-Bages 96 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

This is a monster of a wine, big and dark. It seemed like a baby compared to many of the other wines even the 89. I guessed LB on this (I guessed LB on many of the other wines too) because of the cedar on the nose. In addition to cedar there were massive black fruits, leather and some oak hiding in the background. The finish was very long.

Flight 5 - Flight 5 (3 Notes)

Except this! The two best wines I have ever had... 94 and 96 Harlan, although there are some close seconds now

  • 1982 Château La Mission Haut-Brion 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

Cola, plum and tobacco with great texture. Lots of structure and incredible balance. A very well put together wine.

  • 1994 Harlan Estate 100 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

WOW, this wine mesmerized me. It was surrounded by two amazing wines and I could not stop going back to it. It was so dense and dark you could not see anything through it. There was graphite, minerals, iodine and some huge fruit that only LeVine could do justice describing. The concentration on the palate was amazing and the finish just kept on going. I babied this in my glass because I knew I would be sad when it was gone.

  • 1989 Château Haut-Brion 99 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

I have had this wine before and never thought it was all that I had read until now. This was one Massive bottle of wine. There were lots of graphite, plum, dark cherry and charcoal. The balance was wonderful and the finish big and tannic.
