dark yellow color, nose was a bit stinky, palate right out of the bottle was sweet lemon chiffon with nice acid, but within 15 minutes is becomes more rounded and aged, intense rich flavors of lemon rind and slight bitterness (toasted wood?), still nice but not for everyone, and intense in a way which wouldn't make it a three glass wine

Still seems pretty young for a 15 year-old wine. Decanted 3 hours, and drank over 3 more, and it opened up nicely thru the night, though its peak was at about 4 hours. A light touch, crisp and austere, even with the age. The heat is gone on this 14.6(ish)% wine, but a bit of the oak is still present to round it out. Not much left in the way of fruit, but plenty of zing. I imagine this wine could still have gone on for a while.

Chardonnay Shootout (Hughes House - Chicago IL): Blind Chardonnay tasting. Nice aromatics both fruit and floral, so initially thought Burgundy. Also very good and balanced fruit with some age. But there was a level of discernible alcohol on the finish that made me think very good New World Chardonnay. Impressive. My #4 wine tonight, group's #5.

(Hanzell Chardonnay) Light medium golden color; aromatic, lifted, floral, butterscotch, lemon cream, lemon verbena nose; silky textured, honeyed, tart peach palate with good balancing acidity; long finish

Phenomenal California Chardonnay. Right up there with Corton Charlemagne.
