Introduction

Big event - hundreds milling about. We even spied James Suckling working his way through the tables.
It took us quite a while to get through this, the crowd getting merrier as we progressed - lots of dark lips and cheesy grins.

I've divided it into two flights: the red/whites and the sweets as we had a short respite in between.
None of the scores are to be taken seriously; I'm not good enough at judging big wines this young and there were a lot.

Flight 1 (34 Notes)

Flight 2 (4 Notes)

  • 2009 Château Doisy-Daëne 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac

Lots of pineapple, orange and mandarin. Not as sweet as I had expected. Quite nice!

  • 2009 Château de Fargues 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Amazing! Beautiful nose followed by an equally impressive palate - lots of pear and tropical fruits. Supposedly not as good as '01/'07. Lower acidity than I usually like.
As a bonus I got of picture of me looking slightly drunk standing beside Prince d'Orleans, the CEO.

  • 2009 Château Guiraud 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Nice with similar tropical fruit to the Fargues but not as good. Slightly muted in comparison.

  • 2009 Château Coutet Barsac 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac

Some smoke, honey, lemon, even peach. Not full-on tropical. Good acidity and balance. Wonderful length.

Can't wait for the Bordeaux 2010 event next year - should be a cool contrast.
