    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Moulis en Médoc

    Rather closed at the nose, some cabbage. Powerful on the palate; ripe fruit, some vegetal notes and some fine acids. Balanced from onset to finish but with some rather raw tannins. Patience will be rewarded.

  • 2009 Château Branas Grand-Poujeaux

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Moulis en Médoc

    Jammy fruit and some alcohol at the nose, rather closed. Very round and concentrated on the palate. Big and ripe, but lacking somewhat in acidity and therefore quite hot. Decent lasting finish with round tannins. Appears shut down, better wait some years.

Flight 6 - Château Tour de Pez (2 Notes)

    Intense youthful nose with soft fruit. Juicy cooked and dried fruit on the palate, full from onset to finish. Seductive nicely-balanced wine, will it ever close down?

  • 2008 Château Tour de Pez

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe

    Cherries, brambles and vanilla at the nose. Dark cherries and blueberries on the palate; supported by a decent load of spicy tannins and resulting in a nicely toasted finish. Very good over the next few years but there's certainly no hurry.

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

    Expressive and pure at the nose, many soft aromas ranging from raspberries to coffee. Round on the palate, candied fruit and integrated oak. Some heat towards the rich finish. Lots of potential but also very pleasant now.

    Dark fruit, caramel and coffee at the nose. Well-balanced and smooth on the palate, some vegetal notes but overall rather unremarkable. Decent value.

  • 2011 Château Sociando-Mallet

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc

    Complex nose with ripe fruit, coffee, some tobacco and smoke. Medium/full-bodied and intense on the palate, lots of cassis and some bell pepper; very fresh and with smooth tannins. Enjoy now or cellar with confidence.

  • 2005 Château Sociando-Mallet

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc

    Focused at the nose; very pure cedar and some other notes that give the impression that the bouquet is at the beginning of opening up. Interesting mix of tart and dried fruit impressions on the palate, rich and rather full-bodied. Long finish supported by round tannins. Impressive wine; not nearly finishing its adolescence.

Flight 10 - Château Lascombes (2 Notes)

    Perfumed nose with rose petals and some subtle hints of barnyard. Silky texture on the palate, cassis, other dark fruits and well-integrated fresh acids. High quality second wine, drink now and over the next few years.

  • 2006 Château Lascombes

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

    Very expressive at the nose, complex mix of floral (rose petals) and animal notes (pâté). Fleshy on the palate with similar impressions and firm tannins. Quite open at the nose but the palate still needs some more time to soften.

Flight 11 - Château Grand Corbin (4 Notes)

  • 2011 Château Grand Corbin

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

    Plum and fresh cherries at the nose. Round onset with ripe plums, then coarse tannins kick in, resulting in a rather raw-textured finish. One-dimensional and quite harsh at the moment but it should age well (substance, tannins and acidity are all there, ready to integrate).

  • 2010 Château Grand Corbin

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

    Deep nose with tart cherries, some vanilla and charcoal. On the palate it is powerful in every way: high in fresh acids, rich in juicy fruit, lots of grainy tannins, spicy notes and some bell pepper. Pleasant at the moment, promising for the future.

    Ripe plum and smoked meat at the nose. Silky and juicy at the onset, powerful ripe tannins kick in from the mid-palate along with toasted oak. Modern style, rather bombastic, the components need some time to integrate.

  • 2001 Château Grand Corbin

    Floral notes, tobacco, smoke and some coffee at the nose. Round on the palate, red berries, falls a bit towards the mid-palate during which the oak comes forwards more explicitly. Well-integrated tannins towards the finish. No signs of evolution on the palate except for the smooth tannins. Drink over the next few years.

    fruit-forward expressive nose with gooseberries and sweet melon; very subtle oak. Well-balanced and very fresh on the palate, rich yellow fruit and a nice bite. Very pleasant and approachable.

    Rather closed at the nose; deep dark fruit. Rustic on the palate; concentrated fruit, fresh acids and firm tannins; still a long way to go. Everything is there, give it time or enjoy now with red meat.

    Expressive nose with gooseberries, grapefruit and toast. Slightly thin on the palate, lemon and gooseberries, texture is fine with a slightly bitter bite. Crisp lemon at the finish. Fresh and easy.

    Complex nose with peach, gravel, floral notes and some smoke. Full-bodied and silky-textured on the palate. Rich finish, very elegant.

    Dark berries at the nose and some chocolate, rather closed. Concentrated and well-structured on the palate, the texture is slightly thin though. Closed at the moment but nicely supported by round tannins and fresh acids. Probably not the best moment to drink this.

    Cassis and fresh eucalyptus at the nose. Dark fruit profile on the palate, ripe and deep, supported by firm tannins. Excellent wine, powerful but focused.

    Complex nose with red fruit, autumn impressions, cedar and lead pencil. Well-structured on the palate, rich with a velvety texture and similar aromatic impressions. Decent long finish.

    Raisins, vanilla, some butter and dried apricot at the nose. Pleasant pineapple on the palate with a rich texture. Not flawless though: lacking acidity to balance the sweetness and it also appear slightly chemical.

  • 2007 Château Suduiraut

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

    Deep nose with lots of ripe fruit, some petrol, elderflowers, oranges and other botrytized impressions. Concentrated tropical fruit, dried fruit and honey on the palate, rich but balanced with fresh acids. Clear notes of saffron during the long lasting finish. Fantastic wine.
