Very fresh. Apple and lemon. Well textured. Good balance. Moderate intensity. Slightly better today vs another bottle (prob from the same case) tasted last year.

Brief note. Lots of fleshy apple and pear that get incredible support from an intense minerality and acidity. Very good length. Upside from here.

Small pour, brief note. Lush and forward apple aromas and flavors with hints of peach, roasted nuts and oak spice. Incredibly enjoyable, just slightly more advanced than I'd like for a 2004, so best to drink soon.

Mature black fruit with good mushroom and sauvage support, and a dense, braised meat character. Very good balance and length. I haven't had this wine in a long time, and it's now another 1988 that has come nicely out of its shell.

Dense and dark with fresh black fruit and good background spice. Still very young, perhaps this will pick up more nuance and complexity as it evolves.

The 3rd of our 1988s opened today, this was very pleasurable with mature red and black berries, plenty of earth and a slightly sweet finish.

Small tasting, brief note. Floral aromas with apple, lemon, lemon peel. Very young, impressive weight and length.

Very eccentric wine. Incredibly alluring start with perfumed, spice filled aromas that are so engaging even if the fruit seems rather advanced for a 1999. Flavors are substantially less interesting and rather inconsistent with the wine's nose. Short, uninteresting finish. I've really enjoyed this wine a few times, but not the last couple of bottles opened. CT tells me I have a couple stashed somewhere unspecified in my cellar, so I will have to find them.

Small tasting, brief note. Apple, lemon on nose and palate. Very fresh, vibrant start, more power on finish. Good length. Good now, will drink well through the decade.

I think this was open a couple of hours before I tasted it, but it really needs lots more time in the cellar. Lots of roasted meat, anise, espresso work nicely with red and black fruit. But still somewhat backward and brooding. I have 4 bottles in the cellar and don't plan to open any until 2020.

Really delicious this afternoon, with charming spring flowers, very concentrated red and black berries, moderate spice with sneaky structure that stays in the background but lifts everything nicely. Very good.

1985 Jacqueline Jayer Echezeaux
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
(3/13/2014)
Tasting, brief note. Mature black cherry with some ok woodsy spice. Bit hard and firmly structured for the vintage. Too much acid and too many rough edges for the fruit.

1986 Maison Leroy Charmes-Chambertin 90 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru

Tasting, brief note. More earth than fruit, but clean and balanced (vs many 1986s). Mature black fruit aromas and flavors.

1992 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
(3/13/2014)
Tasting, brief note. Excellent for its age in that it comes across as both very ripe and very fresh. Lots of orchard fruit with good background spice throughout.

2003 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Chevalier-Montrachet 90 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
(3/13/2014)
Ultra ripe stone fruit with very good concentration, modest spice. Bit too fat, slightly short on acid, this was a very good glass of wine for consumption now or the next few years, but didn't come across as particularly "Chevalier-Montrachet" to me today.

2000 Charles Heidsieck Champagne Brut Millésimé 90 Points
France, Champagne

Very good fruit working well at this youthful stage with the wine's intrinsic and intense bready, yeasty character. A style of wine I tend to only like while still young, before the breadiness dominates.

2002 Domaine Roulot Meursault Les Luchets
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
(3/13/2014)
Ripe apple with some faint tropical hints. Ever-so-slightly tired, I think this bottle would have been better a few years back, but still a large scaled Villages wine with powerful, enjoyable fruit.

1996 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Clos Vougeot

From magnum. I've had mixed prior experiences with this wine. Very charming floral start with attractive mature red fruit. More structure than enticing flavors on the palate.

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

From magnum. Big fruit with earthy hints, but very good balance and persistence, even though firmly structured. Good now but still plenty of room to age gracefully.

2000 Forey Père et Fils Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Gaudichots 91 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
(3/13/2014)
My first time trying this wine, it was somewhat perplexing/ surprising. Most 2000s are completely approachable, but we opened this approx an hour before serving (because it IS Gaudichots). Started with very good spice aromas and a nice combination of mature fruit and earth. Then came across as somewhat disjointed on the palate, with acidity jutting out to start, tannins pronounced at the finish. But that awkwardness was mostly gone an hour later, and the wine was quite pleasurable by the end of the bottle another hour later.

Pleasant to start, but very tertiary for this age. No longer pleasant after open 30 minutes.

Brief note. From magnum. All black fruit, very fresh, with a good sauvage character. Very good. Better than when last tried last year from 750.

Tasting pour, brief note. Lots of ripe stone fruit with some apple hints. Nicely floral and rounded, with impressive density for Villages level. Still drinking young.

1990 Domaine de Montille Volnay 1er Cru Les Mitans
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
(3/13/2014)
Very ripe showing the vintage character. Then also very tannic and backward, showing the older Montill style. A combination that I didn't particularly enjoy today.

I haven't had this wine in several years, but once again found it very enjoyable today. Accessible and very balanced with very charming red and black fruit start-to-finish.

2002 Louis Jadot Bonnes Mares 94 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
(3/13/2014)
Open several hours before serving, but it certainly could have used more time open (or in the cellar). Enticing floral start with great baking spice. Sensational array of black and red fruit flavors, slightly more subtle with spice. Lots of power and density maintains balance with firm structural elements. While this comes across as quite harmonious, it will clearly be better as it softens further over the next 5-10 years.
