Craig Vanderah arranged for a great local group to meet at Solera in Minneapolis for tapas and some great Spanish wine. Everyone brought at least one bottle and we served these from youngest to oldest. Service was acceptable, although I can't say we clicked with our server. I thought the food was very good, and really paired well with the wines.
These were poured as people arrived. Once everyone was there we quickly moved on to the reds.
We decided to pour from oldest to youngest. This proved to be a very good decision. All of these showed very well.
The corked bottle of Emilio Moro Valderramiro was very despressing. I have had this twice before and it is an amazing wine. Luckily this was my back-up bottle, so we don't have to start a five page thread about the clod who brought the corked wine to the offline.
This proved to be a tough flight for many of us. The style of these wines is a bit over the top to begin witt. Tasting these at such a young age proved to be a double whammy. I did my best to try to determine which could develop with additional age and which will never be my style. I sure we will get lots of disagreement on these.
My WOTN was the Closa Batllet -- a wine I'd never heard of until last night. The Mauro Vendimia Seleccionada and Unico Reserva Especial Lot 1990 were very close.
I am very interested to hear the thoughts of others that attended, because I was at one end of the table and missed out completely on conversation at the other end of the table.
NV Cristalino Cava Brut 85 Points
Spain, Cava
Ordered off the restaurant wine list at $19 per bottle. The nose gives an interesting blend of citrus fruit, honey, and almond. The taste is dominated by simple orchard fruit in a sweeter style than I prefer. Decent wine for the price.

2004 Mar de Frades Albariño Rías Baixas 85 Points
Spain, Galicia, Rías Baixas
The nose is subdued, giving a nice pear/peach fruit with some minerality. On the palate this is dominated by concentrated fruit in a slightly sweet style with accents of mineral and oak poking through. Flavor coats the palate and lingers nicely on a fairly long finish.
