Same btl as jguthrie. I too enjoyed this wine. It benefited greatly from the 23yrs of btl age. In a younger vintage this likely would not have been my thing. Tonight I could tell from small pour that it was in its pocket and drinking beautifully.

Very Bordeaux-like, to my palate. No pickle notes, unlike many of the wines we had in tonight's Spain-themed wine dinner. Medium tannins, red and black fruit. Not decanted, improved in glass. Great wine.

Monthly Tasting Group: Spain (Estelle, St. Paul, MN): Small taste. I must have been drinking a different wine from my friends JCguthrie and Chablis28 tonight. This struck me exactly as it did 5 years ago when I thought it was over the hill then. My impression was that it was tired, oaky and showing its alcohol again. I'll reserve my score but it would be less than the 88 I gave it back then.

I dare say this is even better than the btl I drank in 2012. This wine is still drinking beautifully and has aged gracefully if it has aged at all. This is a staggeringly beautiful tempranillo and could hold it own in the company of the finest Spanish (and non-Spanish!) wines. Laser beams of dark fruits, tobacco, tar, garrigue, licorice, Provencal herbs, melted chocalate... The flavor profile is incredibly deep and long. The finish goes on for a minute. So sad that this was my last btl but it did not disappoint. This is one to re-buy at auction.

Monthly Tasting Group - Spain: Rich, almost liqueurish, dense, black raspberries, a bit alcoholic.
