Toasty and bready aromas with ripe Apple. Similar flavors but with an elegance and nuance that I like more than most Champagne that start with yeast this prominent. Very tasty and well crafted for now.

Super spice aromas with ripe apple and lots more floral charm than I recall from before. Served slightly too cold to start, this was reticent at first, but showed concentration once above 50F. Wonderful now, lots of upside.

First time tasting this wine in this vintage, and here is another hugely successful, beautiful, young-drinking 2007. Slightly more mature than I might expect from Lafarge so young, but this combines red berry, mushroom, anise and allspice in a package great for right now, but with the density and structure to age, even if seemingly mature already.

Restaurant glass pour. Isn't it great being in Chablis? Ripe apple and pear with subtle spice aromas. Similar but slightly less overtly ripe flavors, while very concentrated and minerally textured. Good now, better in 5 years.

Ripe fruit with floral notes and very good concentration and an expanding finish. Great aromas now, but clearly restrained flavors. So better to cellar another 2-4 more years.

Red cherry and cherry pie with earth and leather notes. Fun and forward already now with an elegant, balanced finish.

Cherry cross-section on nose and palate with background hints of mushroom. Moderate depth but overall very good balance already now, but clearly with further improvement in the cards.

Ripe apple and peach that seems to start too ripe, but quickly veers back to a wonderful place with its minerality and acidity. Very long and very fun.

I didn't know the vintage until after poured and I spent 10+ minutes with this. Knowing the producer I thought it Pommard, but thought 2001, so was surprised and thrilled to see this2004. Lean and mature red cherry throughout with plenty of earth, but nothing green or bitter here. Still, time to drink up.

While clearly more interesting, fresh and concentrated vs the 2004, this had the same fruit profile and earthy character. Very enjoyable right now, with good length.

What a pleasurable glass of old Burgundy that is so easy to enjoy. Lots of earth and mushroom, with hints of fully mature black fruit. I would have thought, however, this older than 1990 if served blind.

Nicely mature cherry aromas and flavors with tobacco, earth and cooked mushroom. At a great place now with good concentration and moderate length.

Bright red fruit with good energy but a faint green, herbaceous note in the background.

Ripe peach with apple and fresh floral notes. Good intensity and richness, moderate nuance. Very pleasurable now, while also showing the structure to hold and age.

Ripe peach with floral notes and subtle spice aromas. Ok a bit of new oak. Very elegant textures with good concentration support fun fruit and spice on the palate. Very good now.

Black cherry aromas and flavors with nice Vosen-style spice. Good concentration comes across with elegant and finesse with the wine's charming, graceful textures. This was carafed for 30 minutes and enjoyed tonight, but has the bones to drink well for a long time.

Floral aromas with lots of lemon and lemon peel. Similar flavors with great zip, great density. There was a nice element of freshly cut grass that I rarely associate with Chardonnnay and was here tonight, but it certainly didn't distract from this wine's fundamental beauty.

Bright red cherry with Vosne style spice. Moderate weight. Still a bit precocious and better in a few years as new oak fully absorbs. Fun now, better in a few years.

Floral start with Apple and lemon. Very good fruit concentration and length, with acidity and minerality that really pop. Very good tonight, with plenty of life going forward. In the early phases of its peak drinking window.

Black berries with background spice and earth hints. Starts out soft, rounded and incredibly charming with good concentration, then picks up steam and finishing with greater power and concentration. A really finessed wine that I greatly enjoy, and will drink well another couple of decades+.

The 2001 was wonderful, but this stole the show for me. Again beginning with an understated start, this has black berries, background spice, a bit of mushroom and dark chocolate, all in wonderful proportion. This picks up weight and density from beginning to end, and finishes with Grand Cru authority. I don't recalls when / if I've ever even had this wine before, but it was a thrill for me tonight in M. Pepin's company.

Starts with lemon and lemon peel, then getting more lush and ripe and apple-ly with more air. This kept getting bigger, riper and better as it spent more time in glass over three hours, really charming me with Citeaux at the end of the evening. Totally confused how a 2008 seems this ripe, but not questioning the pleasure.

A rare treat in general, this was so exciting to see on a wine list. Massive fruit concentration (mostly black cherry, some red cherry) with ripe and dense character start-to-finish. Intense and enticingly sweet spice. Superb length and persistence. But....
this is a hard wine to evaluate for two reasons. First, it was stunningly gorgeous in the refreshing and energetic manner of the best 2010s. But secondly, it didn't yet come across as really classically Volnay in any way or manner. So I err in favor of the wine's fundamental organoleptic pleasure and give great kudos.

Opened and decanted, then drank over three hours. This also kept getting better. Started as perfectly "correct" with red fruit, spice and wonderful balance, but then Roumier's 2007 magic starting coming forth with a weightlessness and length that are too good to understand for a wine at this level in this vintage. This is a wine that demands and deserves attention.

A wonderful lunchtime welcome to Burgundy. Ripe apple and baked apple aromas with floral notes. Starts with ripe flavors, transforms into something leaner, tighter through its long finish, with Meyer lemon and green apple taking over. Great minerality, good acidity. Very good now.
