Introduction

Terry - thanks again - i just LOVE getting this opportunity not only to taste and chat with the producers but also to bug you and realize that hey - you actually like what you do..who knew? :) (and standing next to WS Bruce Sanderson and writing notes on the same wines was kinda cool)

As far as the vintage - carefull selection is the key - i think Mr Theise did an excellent job for us already - but there are a few that are just MUST HAVE

before anything else i MUST say 2 things.
1) If you haent bought Gysler wines yet you are already late but not too late...not only ridiculous QPR but also some of the best wines as well. a STEAL here from a young man who is doing everything right (including slowly going clean and fully organic. Man i wish he was making wines in the Mosel or Saar's best plots.

2) 3 years ago - the first time i attending this "Riesling Holiday", I asked Terry why i dont get his love for Selbach-Oster. And i didnt get them... that is untill now... having the '02 WS kabinet recently really showed me the elegance of his wines and tasting the young ones now - with much more exp - i can finally "see the light" - there is much purity in these babies that was over my head 3 years ago - they arent flashy, but their quiet integrity and delicate balance win you over with time.

ok enough talk - on to the notes

Flight 1 (6 Notes)

Still flyes under the radar - excellent wines, leaner and with more acidity than the '05. The auslese was rich and full of yummy sticky fruit, the spatlese was lean mean and elegant..pick your type :)

Flight 2 (5 Notes)

When Terry talks about good people making good wines i always think of Kerpen - this is true Mosel, not mindblowing Prum side, not all-star complexity of Haag..but wines true to their origin and that provide so much pure relaxing pleasure. not to mention that anything labled WEHLENER gets me thirsty - something 'bout that vinyard i guess.

Flight 3 (9 Notes)

as mentioned above - i get it now. different from the '05s but very good as well

Flight 4 (7 Notes)

last few years i have not been impressed with anything below Auslese. they feel heavy-handed. but starting with the * and up the wines aquire life and meaning... and trully shine

Flight 5 (3 Notes)

Watch out - Piesport has a new star!

Flight 6 (5 Notes)

the "problem" is (and this is year in and year out)there is little diff between the kabinet and the auslese - then again that may be a positive. these are RICH wines - not for faint of heart, but for those who love the style - this is pure heaven and cotton candy

Flight 7 (7 Notes)

does this need an intro? really?

Flight 8 (6 Notes)

Mr Hexamer continues to produce excellent wines - and IMO excellent values as well

Flight 9 (6 Notes)

Once again - exceelnt lineup and great QPR
the '97 spat seems like a BUY

Flight 10 (5 Notes)

the lower end trully underperformed but (as usual) the better wines are tully gorgeous. and worth the $

Flight 11 (5 Notes)

Flight 12 (5 Notes)

Umm..lets put it this way - if this young man isnt on your map yet - he better be there next year! :) trully amazing work - makes you wish he was working in Wehlen. :)

Flight 13 (5 Notes)

an Excellent year for Herr Leitz, gotta love these wines
thankfully Dragonstone is back on track as well

Flight 14 (6 Notes)

Flight 15 (7 Notes)

King of QPR as always

Flight 16 (8 Notes)

Flight 17 (5 Notes)

Closing
