A great 40th birthday celebration with plenty of 1976s open to celebrate appropriately. Notes are from memory, written later that night or the next morning. I remember tasting at least 5-10 more wines but don't remember enough about what I tasted.
1976 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut
France, Champagne
Small glass, brief note. A great bottle that I particularly enjoyed, despite rarely liking older Champagne. Lemon custard and ripe apple with lots of toasted brioche, and moderate oxidative character. Very rich, powerful and long. A great wine, certainly mid-90s quality level.

1976 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon
France, Champagne
Small glass, brief note. Rich and ripe orchard fruit that might not be fresh, but is still fun. Toasty and reasonably oxidative at this point, but good concentration and enough freshness and energy to keep me entertained. Very enjoyable.

1976 Domaine Pernot-Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques 86 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Popped and poured, then tasted immediately and again 30 minutes later. Very advanced black fruit hints with leather and animale to start. similar 30 minutes later, but much more earth, less clean or enjoyable. Paired with the Clair-Dau, which excelled.

Popped and poured, then tasted 3 times over an hour. Black and red cherry, nicely mature with excellent concentration. Roasted meat character with slowly cooked mushrooms. Very elegant and balanced, especially for the vintage. Wow.

1976 Louis Jadot Meursault
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Small glass, brief note. Dark golden color. Shockingly fresh aromas and flavors for its age, especially given '76 ripeness. Certainly still enjoyable, especially for its level.

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

1991 Domaine Leroy Volnay 1er Cru Santenots-Du-Milieu
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Small glass, brief note. This bottle had been opened a day (?) earlier, 2/3 consumed, then refrigerated. Lots of fresh fruit with subtle spice and floral hints. Good combination of black and red cherry I really enjoyed. Less typically "Leroy" on the nose than on the palate. Very enjoyable, plus holding up great.
