Dark berries, mint, something green, bonfire, actually quite complex nose; very -75 in the mouth: pronounced tannic finish, greenish, medium weight. Not a charmer, but interesting.

mellow berries, a bit volatile, a hint of mature strawberries (as in aged Burgundy), a hint of smoke; surprisingly tannic, moderate length.

A lot of discussion whether this was corked or just odd. After some hours in the glass the verdict was clear -- indeed corked.

Ringer (not to me). Cassis and raspberries, cigar, refined, linear and complex, youthful -- also in color. Few could believe that this was from the 70's, although many pegged it as left-bank.

Surprisingly brownish and pale color; tobacco and forest floor, smoke, not the most generous nose; round, drying tannin, some complexity, a bit tough. Weak/atypical bottle.

A small scaled Conseillante, affected by the rain?

Coffee and celery (!), smoke and black currants; rand and comforting in the mouth, good length, not very complex.

A hint of brett (I am not very sensitive), hint of green, but complex, stringent and refined, some bonfire; tight and 88-like but still some fruit hanging in there, good grip, long and fresh, a successful 88.

Menthol, mature strawberries, feminine/Burgundian, somewhat complex; warm big mouth feel, long.

A lot of fruit, some wood still; powerful and full bodied, moderate complexity, quite tannic. Powerful without being imposing.

Deep nose with black currants and blackberries, a hint of alcohol; meet, dark berries, long and structured, well balanced. Lovely and impressive bottle.

Ash and a mix of black currents and blackberries, impressive - but restrained, some minerals, complex and deep wine.

Surprisingly warm smell for a 01, black currants, elegant and structured, well balanced. Very successful 01.

Dark ball of fruit, not unfolding all of its potential, ash, cinnamon (!)/muscat; high acid, tough in the mouth, not charming -- hold.

Floral, elegant, mint, blueberries; spice, good medium full wine.

Elegant, true to the vintage, deep and pleasant, mellow, a bit short though, and some unpleasant rubber notes.

Ash, black currants, tight but already complex; very concentrated, tannic, well balanced, wonderful spine.

Warmish, toffee (!), not very expressive, some ash, a hint of sweetness; not the most delineated, a little blurred edges.

Warm, blueberries, approachable, wonderful; a gap between the warm fruit and the tannin.

The wines showed a fine blend between elegance and power, with increasing quality, especially from 2000 onward. Not easy to peg these as right-bank wines.

TS fill. Prunes and earth, a hint of sweetness; a bit anonymous in the mouth, tannin still there, shortish, fresh. drinkable, but perhaps 30 years past its prime, at least in this bottle.

A nuanced and west-bank like nose with old drawer and forest floor, still some fruit though; mellow and refined with still some tannin in the finish, linear, fresh, medium weight. Lovely bottle!

1959 Château La Conseillante 92 Points

Wonderful depth to the nose, spicy and warm, a hint of figs (suggesting oxidation); drier in the mouth than the nose suggested, surprisingly slim and tight, especially for a -59.
