Introduction

We all had to bring a wine which we forgot to open the first half of this year and our host paired it with a wine from his own collection. Some of us misinterpreted that and brought something really old. Except for our own wine we did not know any other wine and all wines were poured fully blind.

  • 2006 Heartland Viognier Pinot Gris 88 Points

    Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, Langhorne Creek

    Beautiful bouquet with smoke, vanilla, oak, minerals and flint stone. Quite expressive bouquet. On the palate a bit fat, yellow fruits, vanilla, yellow apple, mild acidity and a good length. Nice wine!

  • 2009 Stratus White 90 Points

    Canada, Ontario, Niagara Peninsula, Niagara-on-the-Lake VQA

    Ripe yellow fruits like pineapples and white fruits like pear and litchi in the bouquet. Some minerals as well. Same on the palate, some maturity and a bit special in a positive way. Good acidity, bitterness and length.

    Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale

    Beautiful bouquet with dark and red berries, vanilla and pleasant oak. On the palate dark berries, chocolate, autumn forest, tobacco, good acidity and mild tannin. Concentrated wine with a good length. Not too old yet.

  • 1998 Rosemount Estate Mountain Blue

    Australia, New South Wales, Central Ranges, Mudgee

    In the bouquet coffee, celery, soy and spices. Same on the palate with chocolate and tobacco. Very tertiary, but not dead yet. Good acidity and some pleasant sweetness. No score for today.

    Ripe and sweet berries and cherries in the bouquet. On the palate cherries, chocolate and menthol. Good acidity and soft, round tannin. Ready now.

    In the bouquet sweet ripe fruits, tobacco, coffee and caramel. On the palate juicy and ripe fruits, eucalyptus, good acidity and also a firm amount of sweetness. Great length. The wine is fully mature now.

    In the bouquet ripe dark berries like cassis and leather. On the palate leather, herbs and spices, juicy fruit, beautiful acidity and tannin. Really good wine.

    Beautiful bouquet with autumn forest. On the palate mature, some bell pepper, chocolate, coffee, herbs and spices, black berries, black tea, beautiful sweetness and some drying tannin.

    In the bouquet autumn forest and green herbs. On the palate a mature wine with still some red berries, sweet spices, tobacco, leather and sour cherries. Ok acidity and still some mild tannin.

    Drank this wine 10 days ago from my own cellar. Now I got the wine fully blind and from another source. In the bouquet ripe dark berries, some autumn forest and beautiful oak. On the palate juicy dark berries, cherry chocolate, good acidity and soft tannin. A beautiful wine.

    In the bouquet dark and red berries. Blackberries. On the palate juicy dark berries, some coffee and chocolate, beautifully fresh acidity and still firm but round tannin. Beautiful now, but can last a few years as well.

    Beautiful and mature bouquet with autumn forest but also still dark and red berry fruits. On the palate still a juicy wine. And there is no real hurry to drink the wine. Impressive!
