D/g 07/03/13, 1.7g dosage. Peach, grapefruit, crisp green apple, orange, some spice and white floral notes. The palate is quite fruit rich but the dryness of the palate is also apparent, with the wine compressing though the middle and finding focus. Very fine flavours. Came back for a glass at the end of the night and it was just as good, if not a little better.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Blind. Struck match, smoke, apple and pear. A little more depth on the palate than the St Aubin but it is also rounder and sweeter fruited, while it certainly has acidity, I preferred the mineral streak of the St Aubin to the slight broadness here. May come together more in time.
Blind. Marshmallow, straw, lime, plenty of lemon and slate - opens up very nicely with more air, the aromas lifting continually. Good richness on the palate is tempered by excellent acidity, leaving the wine feeling restrained overall. A mouthwatering quality here, leaving you wanting another glass.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Pear, straw, steely salinity, orange peel and florals - really bright and perfumed aromas, with constant improvement the longer it was in the glass. Brilliant on the palate, with excellent depth and stunning length. Acidity cuts through with ease, with superb texture that takes this to another level. Totally stole the show tonight.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Pretty nose with white and yellow florals, mandarin, lemon and spice. Has good richness and depth, a very nice mix of freshness and intensity. Composed and well balanced, this has plenty of Meursault punchy fruit while still retaining good restraint. Lovely but not at the level of the Lafon. Best pour was certainly the last.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Blind. Light coloured. Quite stemmy and stalky, some smoky ash, redcurrant and some autumn leaf notes. The palate is red fruit driven, with some fruit sweetness and quite mild tannins. Good length and approachability.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
Blind. Pretty and perfumed - cola, strawberry, iron, blueberry and plum. The palate is more tightly clenched together, lacking the same prettiness and purity as the nose - maybe feels a little hollow as well. Probably more time needed and hopefully the palate will come together.
Cherry and smoke, earthy and graphite elements, with a very light touch of spice. Solid on the palate, there is decent structure and some lively fruit but not a lot of depth. Enjoyable and perfectly good for what it is, but doesn't really rise above its level.
200ml bottle. Mango, passionfruit, apple and peach, pear and yellow florals. Certainly shows plenty of sweetness but the acidity is excellent and there is some grip and structure to the palate, retains brightness across the length. Very good!
