France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Mercurey 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Ripe black and red berry with savory spice, acidity, tannins in very good balance. Something of everything. Best vintage I can ever recall for this wine.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Black and red cherry with good spice. Starts off elegant, finishes slightly more structured for now through to long finish. Seems to show very Vosne flavors and NSG structure. I like the combination and potential, 2024-.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Black and red cherry with good weight and length. also nicely balanced. Simpler than most vintages of this wine, also not quite as exciting as when last tasted one year ago. Might be shutting down.
Tasting, brief note. Lots of apple, lemon and lemon peel throughout. Elegant and complex for a wine at this price. Wonderful mineral start and finish. Best to cellar for a few more years.
Tasting, brief note. Spice and floral start shows more new oak than anything else, even with the clearly ripe fruit. Clay soil here, 100% new oak elevage. Doesn't have the mineral and textural elements of the rest of the lineup.
Tasting, brief note. Rich start with spice start-to-finish and lots of minerality and acidity. More power vs Combettes, with almost the same textural energy.
Tasting, brief note. The only Leflaive tasted today with reduction. Very good concentration for its price, but tough to assess in context of a walk-around tasting.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. An odd wine today. Not reduced, but very backward and tightly coiled. Clearly rich and concentrated, but not particularly forthcoming right now. Clearly very good potential, but also tough to enjoy right now.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Floral with lush lemon curd and gingerbread. Explosive fruit. Very long finish. Very good already now with upside from here, best 2018-2028.
Tasting, brief note. Lots of brightness and textures. Strawberry and candied citrus peel. Very Pinot-driven rounded character that others tend to appreciate more in Champagne than I do.
2014 Faiveley Pinot Noir Bourgogne
