France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Bright fruit with good weight. Very elegant textures and mineral character. I have a slight preference for this vs more forward Maltroie. Good now with upside.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Showy start with green and yellow apple with candied lemon peel and floral charm. Unmistakably ripe, but also so well balanced. Wonderful energy and textures for the 2015 vintage through long finish.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Very exciting already today. Rich lemon and lime with some richness and faint tropical hints. Bright and similar flavors with engaging textures. Very good now with upside.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Very big and bold fruit, wonderfully offset with equivalent structural elements. Apple, peach, hazelnut and sweet spice. Very good depth and concentration. Also very good now with upside.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
Tasting, brief note. Floral and spice aromas with ripe apple and pear. Similar flavors are also ripe, with very bright textures. Good+ weight and length. Brighter vs most 2015s.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Ripe lemon and lemon peel with good density and structure. Very well balanced right now. Good+ length. A small step up vs Frionnes, both for now and the cellar.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Very impressive. Ripe fruit with a long burst of acidity and well framed my mineral textures. Very good, long finish. Better in a few years.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Slight reduction. Ripe orchard fruit seems lush, rich but simple to start. More acid and mineral textures middle-to-finish. Probably better in another year, then best to enjoy through 2025.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Lots of green and yellow apple, some walnut, hazelnut and candied lemon peel. Very good length, very good balance. Better to cellar a year or two. 91-93 point potential.
Tasting, brief note. Wow, what an unexpected thrill. Fat black fruit and meaty spice aromas. Very dense palate, very long and already showing layers of flavor emerging. Thankfully I sensed none of the mercaptans described in the Burghound review (nor did other tasters I spoke with). A very engaging wine.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Easily the best of Sauzet's lineup today. Lemon cured with ripe apple and baked apple. Good+ heft and length, while also showing good balance. Probably also best to enjoy young.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. An even bigger step up here vs Clos de la Barre. Still ripe and lush, with intense apple and pear with alluring spice. Power start-to-finish with very good and elegant structure. Very good now, with upside from here.
Tasting, brief note. All red cherry and berry with savory spice in a nicely accessible package. Good length and weight, but I find it somewhat lighter and simpler today than I expected in context of other 2015s at this level.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Lots of orchard fruit with toasty hazelnut. Rich start, mineral-driven and fairly intense finish. Good+ density. Better to cellar another year or two.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Apple with some peach hints. Lush and powerful throughout. This starts out on the extravagant side, but everything comes together brilliantly through finish with good+ length. Drinking well young.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Charming and pretty that seems nicely accessible, but with sneaky structure emerging on long(ish) finish. I like it, but others seemed to enjoy it more today.
Tasting, brief note. Not quite as exciting as when tasted yesterday. Today it was still powerful and meaty, but there was also a faint hint of brett that detracted from the finesse and finish.
Tasting, brief note. All black fruit with slightly sweet spice. Long, rich finish with everything coming across as fun and forward while also balanced with elegant structure at every step.
Tasting, brief note. Charming red and black cherry throughout. This starts out very accessible with good finesse, then picks up weight and density toward powerful finish. Very tasty already.
Tasting, brief note. Cross section of red fruits with floral hints and savory spice. Accessible start, firming up slightly towards long finish. Charming and elegant now, with 91-92 point potential as it puts on weight.
Tasting, brief note. Spice notes with loads of red fruit. Bigger, better and even more balanced vs when tasted late 2017. Cellar time will give this 92-93 point potential.
Tasting, brief note. Red and black cherry comes across as elegant and pretty. Middle to finish there is more density and structure, and very good length. Very enjoyable now, also cellarworthy.
Tasting, brief note. Meatier vs Cent Vignes but also slightly backward. Powerful black and red cherry with good depth, good+ potential, just not quite yet.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. More red vs black fruit with impressive density. Lots of tannin here, but so much ripe, tasty and balanced fruit coming through as well. Long and powerful throughout. 92-93 point potential.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. This also really delivers the goods with rich and ripe fruit, rounded and slightly nutty. Very good balance, nicely forward with good+ length.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Very pretty red fruit with earth and spice. Dense and powerful, but surprisingly accessible, which partly comes from the larger amount of topsoil in this vineyard at the bottom of the hill of Corton. Good already now, even better 2022 forward.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Even more impressive than the Corton les Combes. From the middle of the slope, on the north side of the vineyard. Meaty while also charming. Lots of fresh and powerful fruit, in wonderful harmony. Long and impressive finish.
Tasting, brief note. Pure red fruit with lots of power just 1/2 step in front of lots of elegant structure. Ripe throughout, but enough structure to hold everything together. Totally destemmed. Needs the most time of today's Rossignol lineup, but easily my favorite.
Tasting, brief note. Destemmed. Complex black and red cherry with rich spice everywhere. Ripe, powerful, well structured supporting notes. Wonderful already, but this needs cellar time to really show its complexity.
Tasting, brief note. All red fruit with some toasty notes. Lots of great material here, but not quite harmonious for me today. Slightly brooding and backward, so I wish there was a little more weight in the middle and less forward fleshiness, but then oddly backward at the end. 90 points for me, but there could be upside as everything comes together with bottle age.
Tasting, brief note. All red fruit with lots of density, spice hints and an expanding finish. Very good now, but I think this will really put on weight with time in the cellar. 91-93 point potential.
Tasting, brief note. Sweet fruit with lots of clay / Pommard textures that are slightly too much in the foreground today, but with the density to give confidence in its potential. Needs time. 89-91 point potential.
Tasting, brief note. Very large scaled cross-section of red fruit aromas and flavors. Very big, very long. Also very firm, but with near perfect harmony. Savory spice emerging on long finish. An exceptional vintage for this wine. 2030-.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
Tasting, brief note. Pretty red fruit is nicely balanced and accessible with the bright and minerally textures that are exactly what I what from Chambolle. Fun now.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Gevrey meatiness with more elegant textures. Clearly firm now, on the backward side. Needs until at least 2025. VG 1er Cru potential.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Best of the lineup. Lots of red fruit with very good concentration, weight and enough structure for very good balance. Plenty of textural charm throughout, helping provide greater length and energy. 91-92 point potential.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Côte de Nuits Villages
Tasting, brief note. Ripe and forward combination of red and black fruit is so fun right now. While this firms up slightly middle-through-finish, it retains that bright, sweet charm of a great Côte de Nuits Villages. Big for its level, this is an amazing value wine. 88-89 point potential.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Red and black cherry with some roasted meat. Good+ structure and balance, also slightly lighter styled. Slightly simpler than I'd expect from Grand Cru in this vintage, but wonderfully elegant.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges
Tasting, brief note. From 4 parcels in Primeaux. Red and black cherry, again so pure and pretty. Firmness and structure on finish hints at the complexity that will emerge, 2020 forward.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Ripe black fruit with a lushness that makes it wonderfully accessible already, surprising for this terroir at this age. 90+ point potential.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. All red cherry with background spice. Very elegant and pretty right now. Expanding finish. Charming now, with upside. 91+ point potential.
Tasting, brief note. Ripe red cherry and berry throughout with a charming weightlessness for its level. Very long and texturally exciting. Excellent Villages wine.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Similar flavors and aromas to the Villages, but bigger, more spiced and more firm. Very good length, energy and textural charm. 92-93 point potential.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Red cherry and berry aromas, flavors with impressive spicebox. Big and powerful, with a dense, meaty finish. 92-94 point potential, best to cellar for a decade+.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Also lots of red cherry and berry on nose and palate with incredibly integrated spice and blackberry hints. Power and elegant at the same time with a long, expanding finish. Excellent 95-96 point potential.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Bright red fruit with savory spice, so classically Vosne. Good weight and length. Very good depth, especially on finish. Best to cellar for a decade.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. More black vs red. Meaty character throughout with less nuance or spice vs Vosne or Petits Monts. good+ weight. Not particularly elegant yet, but I like the concentration. Needs a decade+ in the cellar.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. More black vs red cherry with a very ripe and lush character, so fat and fun. Charming and rich spice as well. Lots of structure in the near background. Long and dense finish. Still a bit of pronounced new oak, but that will integrate beautifully in a few years. 93-95 point potential.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Red and black cherry with spice hints that are so Vosne. Good ripeness, even better structure. A real successful vintage for this wine. Easy to enjoy now, but I think this has substantial 92-94 point potential.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Ripe fruit with an incredibly complex Vosne spicebox. Also a bit oaky, but so dense and concentrated that leaves no doubt it will integrate into something charming and exciting. Very long finish. 93-95 point potential.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. So impressive, probably one half notch above the Grands-Echezeaux. Red and black cherry - brawny, rich and powerful. Still a bit oaky, but there is so much great stuff here, starting a decade+ from now. 94-96 point potential.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Similar profile to the Chambolle, but slightly bigger and slightly backward. More red vs black fruit with very good spice. Texturally exciting finish. 92-93 point potential.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Ripe, spicy and overall alluring aromas. Black and red fruit everywhere, this is massive and very concentrated. Already nuanced on finished with explosive energy I find ever so exciting already. Just fantastic 95+ point potential.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Just as complex as Bonnes Mares but more accessible, and even longer. So long, so engaging at every level. Lingering finish. 96-98 point potential. This has the potential to become one of the great wines of the vintage.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Tasting, brief note. Incredibly pure black and blue fruit with meaty hints and wonderful transparency. Great for its level with good+ length and balance. Wonderful now, easily enjoy for a decade+.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. All black fruit with good intensity and elegant textures, almost Chambolle-like. There is a lot in reserve here, so cellar for 5+ years for more weight to emerge.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Also all black, this is meatier, more dense and more "Gevrey." Very powerful yet balanced throughout. So charming already, but with plenty of upside.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Ripe and sweet black plum and cherry aromas come across as forward and alluring. Similar flavors profile, but not nearly as accessible, even slightly brooding. Still very broad, very long. Very good 92-93 point potential, but cellar at least another decade.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Black and red cherry with liqueur hints and extensive savory spice. Deep concentration and texturally masterful. Certainly tannic, but yet almost elegant. Not the easiest wine of the day, but certainly one of the best, 95-96 point potential.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges
Tasting, brief note. Bright red cherry start, with black cherry in the background from middle through finish. Licorice and dried herbs nicely integrated. Good weight and depth, nicely forward for a young NSG.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Black and red cherry with very good depth and weight. Starts with a certain darkness that seems very Gevrey, but the 100% while cluster character really transforms this into a charming wine that showed in an elegant manner. Still a bit tannic, but clearly remarkable 93-94 point potential.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Charming nose of black fruit, roast beef, espresso, anise and allspice. Both nicely elegant while dense. Very long and neatly balanced, with old vine concentration. One of the day's highlights.
Tasting, brief note. Nicely floral start with lemon curd and apple aromas and flavors. Very nicely balanced and accessible, with good weight and length. A Salon that will drink nicely young.
2015 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 89 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. All red fruit with some toasty notes. Lots of great material here, but not quite harmonious for me today. Slightly brooding and backward, so I wish there was a little more weight in the middle and less forward fleshiness, but then oddly backward at the end. 90 points for me, but there could be upside as everything comes together with bottle age.
