France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Small glass, brief note. Dense for the vintage with lots of seemingly ripe orchard fruit and good enough energy. Probably a vintage best to enjoy on the younger side, probably now through 2026 or so.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
My last bottle, still drinking beautifully. Ripe stone, orchard fruit with tropical hints, these easily manages to retain enough acidity and brightness. So much here with impressive density and energy.

Small glass, brief note. In 92/90/89/88/85 vertical, courtesy of Chet Kern. Late release from the domaine, these were Coche-Bizouard, which was later renamed Domaine Fabien Coche. Apple and pear with some butterscotch notes and sweet hints (botrytis hints?) that added further charm. I liked this more than most of our table tonight.

Small glass, brief note. In 92/90/89/88/85 vertical, courtesy of Chet Kern. Late release from the domaine, these were Coche-Bizouard, which was later renamed Domaine Fabien Coche. Rich and dense, very nicely fresh, just less complex or nuanced than the great examples of mature white Burgundy I adore. More time?!?

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Small glass, brief note. Ripe and rich black fruit with roasted game and lots of power. Finishes with such richness that it almost seems sweet. Much better now vs when tasted a few times 5 and 10 years ago.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
Small glass, brief note. This continues to always be a great wine. Complex combination of black and red cherry with spice hints, showing both ripe and lean characteristics. So much complexity here with great balance and very good power.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru
Small glass, brief note. Predecessor to today's Domaine Fourrier, made by Jean Marie's grandfather. Mature black cherry still surprisingly sweet with good weight and earth hints. Moderate complexity, so on the simple for side, by certainly enjoyable.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru
In 03/06/07/08/09/10 vertical. A bruiser and powerhouse coming across as the most brooding and backward of the vertical. So much great material here, but I think it's the rare 2003 that will reward more patience. 91 points today, but 92-93+ point potential.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru
In 03/06/07/08/09/10 vertical. Fantastic aromas of black and red cherry with roasted meat. Palate slightly less accessible, this got better and better in glass, so would have benefited from more air. Previous bottles were decanted and provided more pleasure.

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru
In 03/06/07/08/09/10 vertical. Very ripe and fleshy, this starts out as opulent and flashy, but the structure emerges in the middle and keeps this in great balance. Long finish with lots of power. Better to cellar another few years.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru
In 03/06/07/08/09/10 vertical. Absolutely my favorite of this great vertical. Black cherry and plum with some red cherry note, all in front of roasted meat and spice hints. France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru
Tasted shortly after going through our 03/06/07/08/09/10 vertical, this bottle cam directly from Fourrier. Incredibly dense and rich like most 2005 Grand Cru reds, but shockingly elegant tannins. Black cherry, berry and plum with excellent depth, this is great now but still has upside from here.
Small glass, brief note. From the domaine. Spice galore with bright red cherry and good depth, very good energy and silky tannins. What great Bizot can be when its retains its freshness.
Small glass, brief note. From the domaine. Also incredibly bright with ripe red cherry and berry, showing both fresh and mature fruit and both sweet and savory spice. This has the impressive depth of the vintage with very elegant structure. Very long and elegant finish. A great Villages level wine.

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Small glass, brief note. So much black and red cherry with raw meat. Both great power and balance. Wow, this is so impressive not just for its sheer weight and scale (expected), but its charm and accessibility (unexpected).
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
Small glass, brief note. I haven't had this wine in the past decade, and it is better now vs then. So much red fruit that balances fresh and mature character with intense spice and a very long finish. Truly great wine.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Small late night taste. Also completely enticing aromatically with plenty of ripe orchard fruit and impressive concentration. Lush character makes wonder how this age/ mature, but there is so much great flavors this can easily be enjoyed now. I'd err on drinking this younger and fresher as well, 2020-2027.
